Hey,

just wondering whether i can do a direct swap of speakers. From stock atm, i want to replace them to some MTX's lying at home. Also no amp running and no money any time soon.

And, is it possible to also hook up the splits to the headunit?

cheers

If the MTX's are 6" then there shouldn't be a problem, although if they're 6.5" then you might need some modifications. Mounting depth is another aspect to have a look into as the stock speakers are pretty shallow compared to most aftermarket ones.

The stock speakers are connected via a plug so you'd probably have to cut that off in order to hook up the splits. It's fine to power splits from the headunit, you just won't be getting the full potential of the splits in terms of sound quality or output.

you can power them no problem from the head unit, however as said above you may need to modify your doors accordingly in order to fir the physical size of the speakers, howerver no, you dont need to get an amp.

if i only want to swap speakers, no splits do i need to cut any wires or is it just plug and play?

Also found out the mtx has RMS Power : 65W, and my sony headunit ( cdx-f5500) has max output 50w x 4. What will be the results?

You'll still have to cut the plug off in order to connect the speakers, unless you connect it all up via new cables and terminals. The speakers are pprobably 65rms and the headunit is 4x50w MAX, rms probably 10-18 so you're not giving the speakers all that much power but they'll work and will probably sound better than stockies.

edit: didnt realise you did state that it was max power from the headunit... lol

yes as frankie was sayin...if the speakers are too deep then ull have to make a mount..here is a guide for u in making that http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13092 (not too sure on civic models ...but spacers are all the same)
yeah it will be ok if you run splits off the head unit..its just that ull never see that sound quality be reproduced due to the 18-22 watts that you are feeding the speakers from your headunit.

The stock speakers are connected via a plug so you'd probably have to cut that off in order to hook up the splits. .

instead of cutting the plug off
i jus did this
wif the wires suplied wif ne speaker repalcement
at the end where there are the metal crimps that connect onto the speaker hooks itself.. cut a short length off . at the other end.. strip the wires and plug them into the stock plug ( its thru a lil gap at the end) then tape it up wif gaffa tape or sumfn. titely.. (test speakers b4 tapeing up and screwing)

i no its a dodgy kinda way but effective.. works fine for me :)
