hi guys, i know this isn't really Honda related, but it's audio related, i installed a Clarion HU on my sisters toyota, everything works but when the dash is lit up power to the HU is cut. when i removed the fuse for the dash, power works fine. the car came with sat nav GPS from Toyota factory, so there are alot of gayass wires.. i have hooked up the speakers, ground, batt and 12V.

has anyone experienced the same problem before? i'm pretty sure the power wires are hooked up properly.

this isnt an attack, but if you seriously have no clue what your doing, why did you even bother, especially a vehicle with navigation? ever heard of a car audio store which knows their way around most cars on the streets today? that would be my call if i had no knowledge in doing something like you have mentioned...

i know exactly what you have done, but i wont embaress you here :)

LoL Same....

I hate when people do there own electrical wiring and installs in there cars. Nearly every job is faulty, dangerous and sometimes plan stupid.

Take advice people, pay a professional to do it PROPERLY!

thanks for the advice
i've done a few HU's, and a full system in my own car a number of times. i admit done a few wrong things in the past, but electrics aren't my thing.. i've never seen an audio system with over 40 wires.. my Honda only had 20 or so..

reason why i changed the Hu on my sis's toyota is because some f*ck ripped the touch screen off the sat nav and broke everything.. anyway, back on topic, embarass me? please just tell me what i've done wrong.

figured out the problem.. wiring colour codes i was looking at were for the ausdm/usdm models.. unfortunately i needed the jdm colour codes, which i found.

silly me.. hooking up the illumination with the power..

Glad you got your issue sorted out man.
Keep up the good work learning things yourself, and in case you hadn't already, forget about the people who take the time to make jokes about 'embarrassing' you, instead of taking the same time to help you out.

I have no 'expertise' in car audio.

Turns out you don't need any to try and be a nice person.

If car audio isnt rocket science why are you on here asking simple questions?

Rasputin

Adelaideprosound, I think what he means is that you don't need a degree if you've got some experience and all the details. Unfortunately in this case he had the wrong wiring diagram.

A simple question should be able to get a simple answer. So really there's no problem with that. We're on here to help each other, right?

ICACHA: Obviously you're a professional in your industry, and while your expertise here is appreciated, obviously it can only *be* appreciated when you actually try to help people.

To do otherwise is, as said earlier is

"plan stupid" :P

Well i build rockets as a hobby does that make me a rocket scientist and do you see me going to Nasa and building them a rocket and then when i stumble i say oh sorry i got the wrong diagram.

Some people take offence when others look down on their chosen profession. I can guarantee you a car audio professional like ICACHA is more skilled then you could possibly imagine, in the field of electronics, vehicle acoustics and fabrication.

Dude, your taking things way out of context - the difference between a person building rockets as a hobby and a rocket scientist is that one requires a degree. You dont exactly need a degree to read HU circuit diagrams and soldier some wires accordingly.

Right no worries mate, if you really think all there is to car audio is headunits there is no point in me even bothering to reply.

And what makes you think car audio professionals dont have degrees?

Im a Certified and a Qaulified Car audio Fitter. Now Workshop Manager! Our job is so much harder then people think and banana home job people that claim they know how to fit car audio are a joke. Just ask any fitter how dodgy home jobs are done and why we always get cars that have amplifiers smoke up in flames and central locking motors and alarms nearly catch on fire, Central locking that seizes and some people had to break window to get into the car, Speakers falling off shelves and doors while driving, power wires ran outside the car, all these are serious dangers that most backyarders do!

I know there a some people that have half a idea how to do simple stuff but anyone that has issues with anythin car audio and electronics related take it to a prefessional. Do not try and be a HERO and fix or guess stuff cos you can and will most of the time damage something.

well said, if it looks hard it more than likely is hard. we're trained professionals who work on all cars all day (and night) everyday installing or fixing others stuff ups. actually guys keep stuffing up, it keeps us busy between jobs :p

hey i give full respect to audio tech's. i know it's alot more than people think. of course i wouldn't try and do an entire system as you were referring to, but HU's are pretty straight forward, get the right wiring colours and you're home free.

i was asking because i was stuck, simple mistake and it's all fixed. amazing how people get fired up on something so small.. if you guys want to have a go at people giving audio a go place it in the lounge or something.

guess i'll have to think twice about asking a simple questionwith guys like you bunch around.

its ok, we all goof up from time to time, at least your admitting its not easy. well it is in a sense, if you wire it on the bench its easy, but to make it fit in the car as it would belong, thats where knowledge comes in. i do admit some cars are easier than others too...

n/a,

would u please alter the thread title,as others trying to research their own penis size in comparison to the car audio industry will not be able to locate the valuable info contained in this thread for future reference.

thankyou.
