i recently purchased a muffler for looks and sound but only realised after i received it, it was a 3" inlet. i drive a em1 so my stock pipe is 2.25" or 2.5" (i aint too sure myself) but regardless the muffler i got is bigger. i know connecting the aftermarket muffler to my current piping isnt too much of an issue. just need the correct sizing flange but what im more concerned about is the difference if i had gotten the correct size inlet muffler to suit my car.
am i disadvantaged substantially in any ways if i go ahead with attaching the muffler? like..:

will i lag heaps?
affect the level of sound to louder (which isnt what im after)

is this a common issue (getting universal mufflers with inlets too big for your ride) and generally, is there anything else i should be aware of?

HELP appreciated. :o

2-2.25" anything above is too farty =P, your stock should be less then 2.25 (mine jazz stock piping was like a maccas straw lol)

I've got 2.5 inch piping to my muffler. However my muffler is relatively quiet (tanabe g power). usually you'll find it depends on the muffler - as to how loud it gets.....

Some exhaust places actually will try and get an exhaust note for you that your happy with, so you can always check with your local exhaust place if they will do this for you.

bigger muffler usually means more noise - but like I said it depends on the muffler itself.

i'm pretty sure that stock exhaust on civic is somewhere around 1.75". U might get power loss, but it's hardly noticeable since it's just the muffler that u changed. And yeah, noise noise noise, should install resonator.

umm maybe the only real disadvantage is when you start your car up in the morning all the watery carbon crap will go on your garage floor presuming you garage it.

Did u mention that ur muffler look similar to the pic?
if so i believe it is a cannon style muffle and for ur EM1 i will put 2.5" for a twin loop muffler but for cannon one i think 2.25" is the best size and i won't put anything bigger then 2.5" but if u doesn't change ur b-pipe then it really won't matter much coz if u just change ur muffler it won't have any big different for ur power before and after but except for the sound....
