ive been reading this site and reading alot of d-series threads over the days, with this mod with the small air filters for a dual carb, would it make the petrol comsumption increse because its sucking in hot air? this is the only reason why i didnt want to do it because i thought it would increse comsumption alot

if its uncovered or allows engine bay heat to be abosrbed , then yes it will decrease performance and fuel economy. Its called heat soak and hot air is less dense than cold air.
Get a proper sealed airbox for your filter/carb and you will get increased efficiency.

Honda alsomcompensate a hotter intake charge with fuel correction.

The hotter the air intake, the more fuel compensation.....
