Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone knows where to get a reasonable price on tyres for the 17"... The standard tyre I have been quoted around the $300 mark per corner!!!, think tempe wheel & tyre package are looking like a better offer!!!

Anyone found a cheaper tyre?

What tyres are they? Different 17" Tyres can range from $200 - $400+ depending on performance.

I got my Yokohama C-Drives for $250 each, at a yoko tyre place. pretty good tyres

Don't get the same Bridgestones that you had. Those are overpriced. There are better and cheaper alternatives out there. Yokohama C.Drives are cheap at about $200-250. Try calling up a Tyrepower outlet for Yokohama. Also, there are Dunlop SP 3000A which are about $200 as well.

Yeah, I know that they are more, but i have had these tyres since new and have clocked up 40,000kms and my driving can be quite eratic...would these give the same wear?

The stock tyres are quire average and have drifting tendancies with the euro's.
You'll be better of getting the yoko's or sp3000a's. They should last about the same km since they are similar in performance.

if im not mistaken, the stock tyres ( Bridgestone Poteza) has thread wear of 140 where as my new tyres ( Yokohama Advan Sports) has 180. This is interesting as I thought Advan sports has really soft compound compared to the stock tyres. Hopefully they will last more than 40,000km

I think the C.Drives have a wear rating of 200 or 300. I think it's 300. I'll check the car out later.

Its 300, which is quite decent. So if the Potenza's are indeed 140, then the C-Drives should last twice as long.

I'm still running my original set, and I don't mind them -- although I tend to find that I like Bridgestone tyres in general.

The only thing I would say is that they can't be too bad. This isn't just the tyres, but in the Wheels handling olympics article last year, the Euro held .01 lateral G less than the STI -- which wore semi-slicks.

Personally, I think 40 000 km is pretty good for what's regarded as a performance tyre. (An AU Falcon is apparently lucky to get 30 000 out of an ordinary set of tyres -- and that's the word from a dealer.)

The C-Drives have a higher load rating (94 vs 91 on the RE040s). You would assume that a higher load rating would last longer -- but often means a harder compound, and therefore sometimes less grip.

Like most things, it all depends on what you like and what sort of driving you do.

The compound hardness does not contribute enough to the load rating. It's the construction of the tyre, especially the sidewall as well as the width-to-profile ratio of the tyre that affects the load rating.

I just changes tyres on my oem 17's 225/45 to Dunlop SP Sport Maxx I highly recommend them they grip better then the oem 040's also give way less noise which has been always my grip with bridgestones 040 and 050.

Check out the link (i know they test a rwd but still)

Should be able to pick them up around 250 a corner tyres are the one thing you shouldn't cheap on never know when they save your ass from a big off.

Wow... really? 40,000kms? My 03' Euro had stock Dunlops (dont know what the specs are) and I swear I thought they didn't last very long, like year and a half - avg kms driven. It's got 16" and costed $215 a pop for Pirelli P6000 Powergy 205/55 91V.

Anyone here had experience with Michelin Pilot Precedas? I've only ever found them to be fantastic performing, yet quiet and comfortable tyres. Although they probably cost almost as much as Continentals.

BTW, getting 40 000km out of a performance tyre is superb for a car of the Euro's weight. I'm coming from a high-powered, rear wheel drive car with lots of weight, on which I would sometimes only get 20 000km out of 17" tyres.
