Hey guys, i currrently drive an ek4 b16a2, and ive got a mate with a jdm b16a motor and ecu. Hes selling his car and we wanna exchange our ecus coz his revs till 8600. JUst for fun to try it out first. I wanna know if there will be performace difference and also is it safe for the engine? compression ratio and fuel mixture and all? diff cams etc? will thr be more power?

my opinion....dont bother.

the only real way is to check it on a dyno and physically SEE the difference.

AUS P2T:
~5500 VTEC
~8200 REV LIMIT

JDM P2T:
~5800 VTEC
~8600 REV LIMIT

BUT.. the JDM ECU will look for differences in wiring (ELD and O2 sensor wiring for example) but will still drive normally in terms of squashing the gas-pedal as it will run in open-loop.

if you intend to keep this ECU for daily driving duties you may want to rectify any differences in wiring to retain your stock idle and not be running in open-loop all the time :(

the power GAIN if any will be slight however the advantage in my opinion is the ability to rev 400RPM higher over AUS spec which is a huge advantage as long as your motor is still making power but most B16's dont drop off much at rev-cut.

give her a try ;) I personally strongly believe in the BUTT-DYNO™ - $80-200 for a dyno run aint worth it IMO.. but maybe my ass is fine tuned ;) hahahaha.

seems silly to me... you're not going to be seeing any power gains up there, just putting undue stress on the motor.

just out of interest does your friend have an SiR EK? cause if it's an EG the ecu won't plug in anyways. OBD1 and OBD2 differences.
