hey guys, car idle is running bad. it idles just below normal (700 or so) but when the brake is pressed or the steering is turning it drops right down and almost stalls. the exhaust note is raspy, and bouncy like a wrx.. the engine is vibrating slightly but more than usual. didn't have any problems, until last night. i checked engine oil level which was fine but then it was empty in the span of 3hrs

i was thinking i may have warped my head as i drove for around 10mins with low/no oil, but hopefully not.. slight problem with start up so maybe simple sparkies? no problems with the car revving out.

someone please help! i will be getting it around to a mech. but in the mean time whats wrong with the car!

Is your engine cool now? Check the oil level again.

cleaning the throttle body usually fixes a low idle problem, but yours sounds more severe

oil level is ok atm, will keep checking to see if it goes missing again.

yea arthur, list alot of oil at some stage.. will be cleaning the throttle body once i found out that i can rev the car out. haven't been revving it as im a bit worried that head might be damaged.

is there black shit in ur coolant ?? or when you open up the oil cap is there brown sludge there ??

with the idle.. might b a problem with your alternator.. but id sort out the oil issue first.. sounds more important

Overflow bottle looks like it has oil mixed in with the coolant?

You can get refurbished dizzies, around $500 or more I think, or you could find a cheaper 2nd hand one at the wreckers, but it too may be faulty or on its way out.

But since the dizzy has separate components, you could take the dizzy to a mech and get them to diagnose the exact fault (or do it yourself using a multimeter), and quote you on the new part, be it the cap, ignitor, or coil. You may save hundreds of $$$ if you just replace the faulty part, rather than the whole thing (a new genuine dizzy cap is only about $45 for instance).

They are pretty easy to install, u just need to get the timings right and bolt it on basically.
