View Full Version : heater is ON, all the time, WHY?
in my Accord 1994-05 CD5, has a manual dial to control temperature.
control dial knob was very tight to move, and broken. so i decided to buy a new one and fix this problem.
opened the whole pannel, internal plastic gears were slipping, which was causing dial not to work smoothly. so i fixed them.
put all things together, and now guess what?
all the time, if i turn on fan, it gives me hot air, no matter outside its cold or warm. if i move dial to hotter (clockwise), air becomes hoter. but on very left point on cool side, still slight hot air.
only way to get cool air is to turn on aircon.
can someone pls help me what wrong i did, and how can i fix it, thanks.

Possibility the valve that circulates coolant to the heater core in cabin is not closing off completely.

regardless of what your replaced/fixed. it a common problem on CD5 to not move the blend door all the way in either direction.
what you have to do is move the heater knob all the way to cold, then make sure the heater tap is in the full closed position, ( take the cable off and reseat it after moving the heater tap to full closed)
then do the same with the blend door cable. wich is access from the pasanger side floor well, you 1st have to remove the black cover.
thanks very much for all your responses.
one thing i forgot to mention in original post, that this contineous hot air problem was not there before my DIY :)
i noticed one thing, that even if you turn fan to OFF, and change air direction to face, very slow hot air continues to come out of front duct.
so i agree that somewhere duct is staying open, and not totaly closed.
ECU-MAN, i opened that black cover to see if something was making temperature dial to work harder, and then did not check that after closing everything on top side (behind dials).
i will check that blend door cable (close from passenger floor) tomorrow.
but can you please explain what should i check there. all what i remember there were 2 lever there connected to cable, basicaly to transfer pull/push force between front dials and other end in engine bay.
bigjo5, is heater tap is same blend cable or is it different??
Eurodue, i m sure what i connected, is still connected, because heater is working great. i bought this car in May 2000 and from very first day it had this temperature dial problem. was just too lazy to open and fix it. now dial is working very smoothly, and i can feel heater intensity changing with even slight dial movement.
Claymore, cable behind dials on white gear is connected properly, though it goes up and down while you move dial on its axle (i suppose that normal, as both are on right angle) i made sure that dial starts from cool to hot, but still there is possibility i have made some real sily mistake there. will have another look at it tomorrow after work.
SpeedCore, where can i find that coolent valve, as you mentioned.

the heater tap is on a different cable to the blend door
the cooalnt tap is another name for heater tap.
undo the cable from the lever
move the lever all the way to the cold direction,
then move the heater knob to the cold position
then refit the cable
make sure hte outer sheeth of the cable is not damaged as you will be just waisting alot of your time coz the cable wont stay in the position you left it in.
will do this today after work and let you guys know progress.
atm, its becoming hard to drive with 2 windows down, because even with fan off, still blowing hot air all the time.
i did not put that black cover back (passenger side close to floor) yet, so this is what i did:
turned heater knob to cold, and checked lever inside black cover.
placed black cover back, and seems like its working fine now.
could not locate heater/coolant tap so far. will try that on weekend once again. but tomorrow will be real check if its working fine, would better not to locate any taps :P
thanks so much for all your help. Ozhonda Rocks.
