Gearbox play

have an EK4 and the gearbox is really loose, i can probably move it side to side about 2-3cm each way.

is this normal? how do i tighten it up ?

your shifter bushings have gone soft.
replace them and it should feel tight and firm with little play

the shifter bush worn due to the age of your car.
Try to replace it and it will feel tight again.
Or double check does everythings is tight from the underneath of your car.
You will see some bolts there under the shifter.

Just replaced the bushings with energy suspension ones. The shifting does seem a little firmer but there is still the 'play' in the gearstick.

there's still play because it could be the joint (i'm not too exactly sure what it's called) where the linkage connects to the gearbox.

If you look at the pic ( pic from JDMConcept ), the joint which I'm referring to is the top bar on the far right hand side

My gearstick has alot of play too and I think to fix it, you may have to purchase new shift linkages.
