People rave on about how good BMW is, about their NA engines being the best in the world etc this and that.

What are peoples views on their record in the F1?

I think BAR Honda are abit underdone about their achievements. U hear so much about the renaults, Williams and the Maclarens. Is BAR Honda not an equal to them?

PLEASE USE THE MOTORSPORT SECTION!

We extremely lucky to have been 5th last year ...... if it wernt for the last race, we would have finished 8th (or something like that) in the '03 championship!

This year we changed to micheline, and have a VERY competitive car. In fact, BAR Honda is seen as the second best team on the grid at the moment....despite our third position (behind the renaults) in the current standings.

bmw is a great engine supplier. williams isnt the best chassis constructor.

williams need more development on their front to make the car compeditive.

hehehe :D

back on topic.

I think it's not just on the engine alone in F1.
You need a good team.
BAR Honda has more to go in the next few years as the team and drivers get used to everything IMO.

BMW Williams are suffering from setup problems and chassis design rather than engine as far as i can tell.

BAR aer a young team, and are still learning a lot. I think that they will continue to improve this year and next year really show what they have got. Need to get a bit more reliability out of the engine at the moment.

Both of these teams can sit back and laugh at McLaren at the moment!!

Don't mix F1 with road cars!
You can't compare them, in all honeslty!

If you won't prove on how good BMW's N/A cars are, look at the M3 or 7 series BMW's!

I have always thought Honda have excellent N/A cars aswell, with the NSX and Integra! (now with S2000 aswell)

You also mention McLaren/Mercedes, they are basically with BMW when it comes to road cars with great N/A power!

It doesn't come to most people's minds when you say look how good the Integra Type R engine is? Because there response will be this "Yeh but its still a Honda" Thats why they get no recognition!

But if its a BMW or Mercedes (a car that everyone dreams about) they change there mind!

I think they started well..

Given there are two main points to consider when in comparison with the bees knees ferrari team.. first being that the bmw engine isnt as fast in a straight line.. second is that the chasis doesnt handle as well meaning that the williams loses more speed in corners and wont exit as fast as the ferrari.

When they first started with willaims both these werent a huge problem. The willaims handled just as well if not better than the competition and straight line speeds were pretty much equal with other engine manufacturers.

I'm pretty sure that the Honda is faster than the Ferrari in a straight line but here you see the chasis letting it down as they too lose too much speed into corners and so their exit speed is far too slow causing them to fall behind.

So all up its likely that the williams chasis is letting BMW down more so than the BMW engine letting williams down. Unlike Mclaren who are having probles all over the place with engine speed reliability and chasis balance.

My 2 cents anyways

Honda's engines are begining to show form again after the McLaren / Senna partnership of the 80s and 90s..but their biggest problems were with reliability..this is starting to be looked at and improved a lot this year.
BMW were the first to have 19000 RPM engines ~ Imola 2003 and they were still having reliability issues, even more so now..in F1 it's really hard to get an engine with good performane AND reliability 100% of the time, and within 1 season.
Mercedes (with McLaren) and BMW (with Williams) are proof of this.
Honda are now this season, starting to see the fruit of last year's labour.
