hey everyone!

plan on putting a d16y8 g/box on my d16y4 because it has better gear ratios... now i'm also looking at replacing the clutch while at it! but i was looking on the exedy website, and it says the y8 and y4 gearbox's have a different spline! y8 has 212x22x20 and a y4 has 200x22x20!... plus different part no.!

so which clutch am i to get? i'm guessing the y8... but just seeing if anyone has done this or sounds like a probelm someones had with say b-series tranny swaps or etc...

thanks!

You got it
Get the clutch to suit the gearbox, also an alignment tool to suit..;)

i know i'm kicking up and old thread of mine...

but do you also use the flywheel that matches the clutch or the motor?

I'd say motor, but wait for someone to confirm.

the clutch matches the gearbox, not the motor. The throw out bearing and spline, which is on the gearbox has gotta match up with the clutch hole.

got that part... its the flywheel i'm having concerns about...

would the bolt pattern for the pressure plate and the OD diameter/teeth make which flywheel to get?

Pressure Plate --> Flywheel --> Engine

Clutch disk --> Gearbox input shaft.

Flywheel must match engine. Pressure plate must then match the flywheel. Clutch disk must match input shaft but also reside whithin the contact surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate.

The d16y8 box should bolt up fine otherwise. FYI I dont think the ratios are that much better if at all.
