Hey guys,
i recently got some advanti wheels and proxes 4 tyres put on. i love it...i looks great but i have one problem, when i take a corner a little faster than usual, i can hear the front tyre which is taking all the pressure from turning scrape against something in the front. the same thing happens when i come down a hill fast and bounce it, i can hear the front hit i think the body or something. i am taking it back to be inspected on monday but has anyone got any ideas of what it could be? because i think they will just tell me thats the way its going to be. would it have anything to do with the suspension at the front? the back has had koni suspension installed but im pretty sure nothing has been altered at the front. There is still a gap at the front between the wheels and body as it hasnt been lowered or anything. i think that it might hit the front where the wheel goes and not at the top as you would suspect but i am not certain. anyone got any ideas of what it could be? my car is a 96 civic sedanand my bro has a 97 civic coupe and he had wheels installed on aswell and im almost certain that it doesnt happen to his car. let me know.....

First step would be to just have a look. So it's rubbing when you're going straight sometimes?
There's a few places it could be doing it. If the wheels are the wrong offset or too wide they could be hitting the outside lip of the wheel arch. Rolling the the inside of the lip could help in this case.
Otherwise there are a few places around the inside of the wheel arch that it could be hitting. It is usually pretty easy to see where it's hitting in there because there is sound deadening etc that will have rubbed off.
If it is hitting the join right at the top of the wheel arch in the middle behind the plastic you can take an angle grinder/bash it to get some more clearance.
If you have a gap at the front still then stiffer suspension will definitely help. And when you say your brother got wheels installed were they exactly the same size, offset, width? Otherwise you can't really compare his situation.

they are 17" rims with tyres 215/40ZR 17 87W so they are low profiles.

I think it could be hitting the lip but im not sure because that is the most furtherest part of the car around the wheel. can i find the offset by looking at the rims? if it is wrong offset, is it just a matter of them adjusting it for me? the wheels are sitting under the lip of the car but im pretty sure thats how it sat aswell with my stock wheels so it doesnt stick it any further than it used to and i dont think that it is hitting anything further in than the lip but i cant be certain as it would hit the lip first. Its just the gap was bigger then so it had more clearance whereas now with the larger wheels, there is less clearance. The scrapping sound only happens when i hit a corner at speed or bounce the car coming up from a hill. it is fine when driving straight etc its only on corners when u take it a little fast, all the pressure of the car goes to one side and thats when it starts to scrape.

205/40 would of been a better fitment.
offset should be around 38,40 or so.

You'll probably have to take the wheel off to see the offset. And no you can't adjust it. Should be a figure around what destrukshn said. +40 or something.
Another thing you could do to see if it's rubbing on the inside of the wheel arch is to get some spray paint and very carefully give it a very light coating and see where it rubs off.

i think u just stated your problem:thumbsup:
they are massive yo.
if your offset if correct the 215 17"s would stilll make it rub
find out if its rubbing on the outer lip of something behind the wheel in the guard.
if its the lip then you may have to roll it.
what camber is dialed in at front?
