the figure u saw on above post was for the Euro R version... which is K20A instead of K24A... and it revs to 8k rpm...:P

From what ive read, its because in the US they use slightly better quality fuel (higher octane).

Our Euro's are tuned to run on 95RON. The US uses a different rating system, but I imagine their TSX's are tuned to run on something like 97RON/98RON equivalent. More octane = more power when tuned properly.

Honda Aus could have tuned our Euro to 98RON minimum, but thats not really practical. 95RON is expensive enough ;)

Incorrect there buddy... the U.S has rubbish fuel... their "premium" fuel is based on 91 octane.

We have better fuel than them for sure!

EuroDude
14-11-2006, 08:33 AM
not sure about that, the US use a combination of RON and MON to determine their octane ratings. I know Japan use very good quality / high octane fuel though.

Taken from wiki:

Different countries have some variation in what RON (Research Octane Number) is standard for gasoline, or petrol. In the UK, ordinary regular unleaded petrol is 91 RON (not commonly available), premium unleaded petrol is always 95 RON, and super unleaded is usually 97-98 RON. However both Shell and BP produce fuel at 102 RON for cars with hi-performance engines. In the US, octane ratings in fuels can vary between 86-87 AKI (91-92 RON) for regular, through 89-90 (94-95) for mid-grade (European Premium), up to 90-94 (RON 95-99) for premium unleaded or E10 (Super in Europe)

I was in the U.S this time last year and I saw their highest octane rating was 91... and that was "premium" fuel....

still can't get over their prices.... $2.20 per GALLON!!!
Thats frikn CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Muahaha I'm here. US fuel is similar to ours. When you convert their PON rating to our RON, it's almost the same with 92 for regular, 94, 96 and 98 for premium. The difference is that almost all of their fuel has ethanol!

Our fuel is better. The TSX was tuned for 91 PON which is 96 RON. I doubt 1 point difference would give 7kW, especially if their petrol has ethanol in it. The reason that we (and the UK) get only 140kW instead of 147kW is because of marketing. Look at the 2006 TSX, they got engine upgrades that now give 160kW. No other country get that engine... :(

How did they pimp 160kw from the K24A2?
Bigger intake and exhaust? More aggressive CAMs?

It's a long list.

Bigger intake arm
Bigger throttle body
Bigger intake valves
More aggressive cams
Vents between cylinders to reduce pumping loss
Larger exhaust (not sure if headers are larger too)
High flow cat
Retuned ECU

I dont think the new K-Series Advanced VTEC is released yet (Full variable VTEC).

Its most probably just a suped up K24A2

We could probably expect it in the new 2008 Euro, doubt it will appear in 2007 especially since the Euro has already had its Mid/Minor model change in MY06

Unless they release a new Sports / Euro-R with the new engine ;)

It's i-VTEC. But it is not the VTEC mechanism that limits power. All VTEC does is let you use 2 cam profiles.

EuroDude

Sendok is referring to the new A-VTEC or whatever they will call it :)

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/09/25/023029.html

TOCHIGI, Japan, Sept. 25 -- Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has further advanced its VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System) technology with the development of the Advanced VTEC engine, which achieves high performance along with outstanding fuel economy and lower emissions. The new engine combines continuously variable valve lift and timing control with the continuously variable phase control of VTC (Variable Timing Control). Honda plans to release a production vehicle equipped with the new engine within three years.

sendok

Yes it's true... i-vtec only. i wonder how it feels like the advanced vtec... and, why they put accord euro on the poster of advanced vtec, not the others like integra or rsx..

hmm..

EuroDude
16-11-2006, 08:21 AM
They used the Euro (Japanese Accord) to test the new K Series engine, possibly because the test engine was a 2.4L and not a K20A variant
