hi my friend is getting a k20 swap in his crx and when to check on how it was going at the mechanics shop and noticed that the block said k20a3 not a2. now we no that the head is not off an a3 its an 02 type-r head.

The mechanic said that the number didnt matter its still a 2ltr but we are unsure becusae the k20a3 is from the civic si and only has 160hp.

Is there any difference between the 2 blocks?

cheers.

Big difference between the 2 blocks. The A3 block uses thinner rods and lower compression pistons and it doesn't have oil jets. Check the stamp on your Type R head, it should say PRB or PRC.

are u referring to the black CRX at GPC?? If so, dont worry, the block may be an A3 but the pistons & rods has been upgraded to JDM items (higher compression than A2).

there are no oil jets in the A3 block and something about the oem oil cooler. ill have to look into that and and how much its going to make a difference. the crank is weaker too so hopefully that has been upgraded as well.

so what is the advantage of the oil jets in the a2 block?

the A2 block will be cooler. but how much difference does this make over all? EG5 any ideas?

so what is the advantage of the oil jets in the a2 block?

It feeds oil to the wrist pin and cools the piston. Which aftermarket rod did you use? If your aftermarket rods have the "force feed wrist pin" feature then you probably don't need the oil jets. You can get your block machined to fit the oil jets and oil cooler for around $100. I have spare K20a2 oil jets, oil cooler and oil pump for sale, send me a PM if you are interested.

ill get back to you about which rods we are using. i have been led to believe that the entire motor was built with JDM k20a internals so im assuming that would include the rods also. but i also assumed we were using a k20a2 block and head. not an A3..

will post asap

appreciate the help to

confirmed with charlie crank, rods and pistons are all jdm OEM k20a. can anyone see any issues using an A3 block?
