Have a search on the forum for weight reduction.

Someone posted an awesome article where they removed everything from a car (including parts of the chassis) and ran it down the quarter at various stages.

Weight reduction is the best bang for buck mod you can do.

I removed 30 kgs from my boot and noticed a bit difference in handling. I also noticed that the back of the car now sits higher... :( (gettin sussy soon anyway)

Because there is no weight at the back of the car it is tending to understeer more so I'm looking into removing weight from the front and adding some of it to the back (ie battery etc)

I'll have a look for taht thread now. not sure if it was before the hack or not.

Jesus guys learnt to use the search button, it was on the second page :P : http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=61988&f=23&h=0

wat would be better for the car less weight at da front or weight at da back.would a strut brace do the job so it doesnt understeer

who would you think would win civic EK with a 99-type r engine and gear box with no interior or a 180sx or 200sx running stock. we talkin about 400m run,

Man couldn't tell you between those two mentioned cars.

As for weight distribution you don't want to get all the weight at one end otherwise you will induce oversteer or understeer.

The general consencus is to go for a 50 50 weight distribution but i reckon it'd be hard to get to 60 - 40 or even 70 - 30.

Once you start removing stuff you'll notice the difference. Thats what i've done and thats why i plan to get some stuff back ontop of my rear tyres.

would you think just leave the spare tyres in da back would help

If you're focusing on weight reduction, putting a spare wheel and jack in the back defeats the purpose. Relocating the battery is a logical plan as you need the battery SOMEWHERE anyway, so moving it to the back helps redistribute weight without compromise.

CF bonnet would help reduce the weight in the front, yes. If you have lots of gold you could also replace the front quarter panels and bumper with CF equivilents and rebuild the engine with light weight alloy components - or just start with a lighter rocker cover and work towards the flywheel and then start rebuilding the engine. Or just buy a completely new custom engine fabricated by one of the many Honda tuning brands.

A more realistic start would be removing the airconditioning and power steering. That should amount to somewhere in the vicinity of 15kg in itself.

You can take it just about as far as you want to. Start with removing, then move on to replacing.

I reckon it'd be more then 15 kg's for both aircon & PS. I think aircon alone would be around about 15 - 20.

I'll let ya know when i remove mine.

Use the workshop manual for your car type to establish where it is and then go out and have a good look in the engine bay and check out how concealed the bolts are and that'll give you a good idea if other stuff will need removing first etc
