I just left mine on.

Removed wheels, lightly sanded the calipers. Masked off the areas I didn't want painted, and then threw a towel to cover them a little more.

Painted a light first coat, then kept coming back every 30 mins (not much drying time because I gave them each 5 minutes on the end of a heat gun (blow dryer for men, can get it for like $25-30) and ended up doing about four coats each. Didn't use a clear coat.

Make sure that you use proper brake spray paint, can be had from autopro/supercheap etc. You need this special paint since your brakes can get up to 700Deg Celcius, and other paints will just melt off.
