My new Mugen front lip arrived and it needs to be painted.

Just wondering, is it possible and if so, how do you paint it in a carbon fibre look? Obviously good quality. I'd prefer Carbon Fibre over Black (cars Black).

I'll be getting the smash repairer to do it, but I didnt wanna ask and then get a blank look from them...:thumbdwn:

not possible

it's possible, but requires a lot of very very very skilled airbrushing and such... WAY more costly than it would cost to just make the part out of carbon

prolly he wants mugen's and mugen doesn't make one.

but my advice is, don't try to make it look like carbon fibre. better of spray it done properly. looks better.

There's a place that can dip your stuff and it will come out with a CF look.
Aquadip or something like that.

Their ads' are in AutoSalon, etc.

LOL; I did take a quick glance, thought they fabricated CF stuff :p I reread, and I see it's the same.

There is a few Australian places that do it, as far as I know mainly on the east cost.

Just giving the guy options :p

this is what they usaully do. They firstly spray a under coat of the silver, then lay a material down (something like fly screen stuff) and spray over the top of it. Try it your self on a peice of wood or something to see how it turns out.

Well many of them may not even know its illegal, but thats no excuse. Its not worth the risk, ur insurance company can reject a claim if you dont specify modifications in the contract, or if you hit a ped, who knows what could happen as a result.

You can use one on the track though..

Try as was mentioned. under coast with a grey/white undercoat then find a fly screen and spray black over it and see how it turns out.

all colours have a code

like for eg my car is white.. but der is soo many different shades of white out there and the actual colour code for my car is NH538.

now same goes for black.. there is soo much variety of differet shades of black colour to choose from.. perhaps someone knows a black which would look best as a CF bonnet lookalike.. and would suggest that colour code..

whats so hard to understand about dat .....

peace^^

hey, if u really want it to be carbon fibre and your serious about it, you can pm me, we can make real carbon fibre onto it customly,
like the way they make real cf they start off with fibre glass like the lip you would ov bought. then they add a cf layer on top etc etc

and btw.. there is no such thing as carbon fibre paint.

"the real" carbon fibre u speak of isnt propper. Propper carbon fiber products are made from pure carbon fibers. Companys making cheap products usually make them from fiberglass and do a single layer of carbon over the top, to cut costs, and fool people into thinking there actually buying a product made of carbon fiber:thumbdwn: , these products are mostly only for looks. While they may use real carbon fibre, its hardly "real carbon fibre".

and yes theres no such thing as carbon fiber paint - its a carbon fiber look alike paint/coating, which im sure evryones aware of.

carbon fibre is partly fibre glass from what i know,
applying the top layer of carbon on the fibre glass isnt cheap mate.
go have a look at real carbon bonnets u will see the inside is fibre glass

I doubt it, I'm an F1 nut and they sure as hell dont have fibre glass in between their CF body work...

the law is pretty inconsistent making CF Bonnets illegal for street use, when even GLASS shatters upon impact... and glass my friends exist on every single vehicle on the road.

You don't understand what you just posted. :thumbdwn:

If you hit a pedestrian, which would be better for the pedestrian?
1) Crushable metal (aluminium or thin sheet steel)
2) Fracturing fibreglass (CF bonnets are fibreglass with 1 sheet of CF for looks)
3) Fracturing glass (this is why there are no glass bonnets)

Id say unfortunatly about 70-80% of "carbon fibre products" (bonnets, fenders etc.) out there are fibreglass with only a carbon layer over the top. Just because it is more common does not mean it is propper carbon fiber. Its hard to find pure carbon fiber products out there.

They are made this way for looks (to fool people into thinking the product is pure carbon fiber), and to make the part cheaper to produce, not saying its cheap.

There are for types of carbon fiber used in profesional race cars & what not, polyester carbon composite (PCC), Carbon honeycomb composite (CHC, super expensive stuff seen in F1 cars), Dry carbon composite (DCC), and Pressed polyester carbon composite (PPCC). None of these types of carbon fibre contain fiberglass what so ever.

The "real" carbon fibre products i speek of are most often constructed of polyester carbon composite, which is carbon fibres stacked ontop of eack other to reinforse the polyester resin.

Fibreglass products, with a coating of carbon fibre for looks, are most certainly not carbon fibre products.

All i know about it, is there is a company out there that does look alike carbon fiber coatings, that apparently looks very convincing.
