Hey guys,
I never really post on ozhonda, since i dont drive one, but my gf's got a 93 civic. Yesterday morning she went to start it and it, so i got her to to pump the accelerator a few times, then start it and it worked...now this morning it wouldnt start at all.

i done the oil only 3,000ks , but the car has done 60,000 since its last service from the previous owner..but she wont let me touch her car...til now.

i got a new set of of spark plugs, is there any links on here on how to change them??

also what is the model number on the fuel filter and location so i can do that too.

any other suggestions

cheers
DAZ

What happens when she turns the key??

if it doesn't crank then it could be the starter motor or the battery.

If it does crank but doesn't turn over then it could be something to do with deliver (Air, Fuel, Spark etc)

Good luck

dont buy a fuel filter or repco! $60!

it does crank, and tte battery is only 8months old, maybe build up on the terminals, i honestly have never checked, as she hates me checking her car.

i got a fuel filter from repco for my skyline for 25bux..i might go get a price at lunch time, but i have never worked on a civic before, so tutorials would be good if anyone has one

edit: i got myself a copy of the service manual, anyone know what pages it shows the fuel filter change over or spark plugs

Same thing happened to my car few months ago. It's the dirty terminal. The crimp on it could be rotted away. Just get a new terminal, it worked for me.

If it cranks but doesn't start, then you have to check the spark plugs, dizzy and leads in that order. Eventhough it is an old car, the fuel filter will still flow enough to start.

not quite.
i've had some instances.
where the fuel filter was so dirty, car won't start, and if it did start, it won't flow enough fuel to keep it going, it'd stall.

thanks for the gunter and aaronng , once i get of from work i will head down and have a look at the car and try the battery terminals first.

i got a set of spark plugs during my lunch break so i will change them and fingers crossed it will start.

Spark plugs will be the same procedure as a skyline. They're all the same thing man. No big difference between any car. Just with the newer cars theres a few extra bolts and maybe some plastic you have to take off :P

Guess it does depend on the car... my experience was on a 94.

I guess it depends on the filter and the fuel then...

That must have been a corroding fuel tank in the car you serviced. LOL.

Maybe they used sand as a fuel additive?? :P

jeebus.
lol.
dirty!
but most of the time, as long as your run clean fuel, and not run it dry in the tank, most of the time you can get away with it, kinda.

heheh the gf civic done 60,000 and never had an oil filter change / air filter or fuel filter and original spark plugs. the car runs like shit i tell you.

also she uses petrol from this half ass petrol station, that i would be scared to even touch.

jasongilholme : i just saw a pic of the engine bay in a DIY and the spark plugs are straight foward, thanks mate.

ok i finally went to look at it , the oil was low , so i topped it up, i changed the spark plugs and gapped them at 0.8mm , used another air filter to test it and the car starts , but as soon as its running , its idling really rough and black smoke it pouring out of the exhuast.

the only other thing i can think is the fuel filter, but would it cause this problem, or is it something bigger?

aaronng

The plug gap is meant to be 1.1mm.

1.5L dual carb

your carbs are causing the black smoke

the pistons are binding and not freely moving up and down causing rich mixture.

thanks ECU-MAN , we organised it to get towed this morning , so someone will be looking at it some time today or 2morrow and ill post up the results.

So what needs to be done to fix the problem?

unscrew the piston chambers, and remove the pistons, clean and lube them and the chamber, make sure the rubber o ring is ok and reasemble and test.

Would you be able to post a pic on what the piston chambers looks like and where its located? I dun really know my way around carbs.

sorry to dig up an old thread,
just a guesstimation, how much would one of these services cost?
