Hi Just wondering if you pay stamp duty if you do a vehicle swap with someone?
Assuming equivalent values of cars for eg 20K dc2 for a 20K Type X 180.

of course you do.
You buy the car, you just pay using your car instead of cash.

I don't think that was much of an answer... I had to work this one out too, when i wanted to "give" my old teg to my brother.
Basically stamp duty and transfer fees are paid on a percentage of the market value of your car at the time of sale.
For a passenger car it's a duty of something like $5 for every $200 plus $29.60 transfer fees. The only good thing is that "market value" doesn't include mods, so say you buy a fully worked S13 for bout $20 000, but the market value is only $5 000, then just get the seller to put down the $5 000 on the transfer papers.
I have heard that if you put too far below the market value on the papers, then they can actually bill you for the rest!! A-holes!!

thinks it's every $200 you will pay $8, so $40 per $1000 in Victoria + $29.60 transfer fee.
