So I am taking my interior out to change over the carpet and add sound deadening
And since the seats were out, I thought I would weigh them

The result? 19kg each

How much do fixed race seats weigh?
And how much for reclinable race seats?

I have DC2R Recaro's

the fixed race seats are gonna be much lighter (even lighter again if you get carbon or carbon kevlar)

I've seen some seats from status/bride/buddyclub of the fixed seat design and you should be looking at about 6-10kg depending on material etc. so you should stand to lose about 20kg minium if you change both seats out :P

The car is a 2 door though and even though the rear seats are very rarely used (and I guess with fixed seats more of a reason not to load the car up :))
I think it's still illegal isn't it?
And how much would some 2nd hand seats like that go for?
I can sell my DC2R's for $1500 (someone offered)

hmm... i think if the seats are ADR approved and if you have a mod plate for the new seating configuration you should be ok?

buddyclub seats your looking at about 1k including a seat rail, bride is about 1100 with a rail.. but these are for the fiberglass models. The CF ones are obviously more expensive and youll save maybe a kilo or 2, for the money fiberglass is the way to go IMO

check out the status seats at their site they have the weight specifications for the different models CF vs. fiberglas vs. carbon kevlar etc.

Are those prices per seat or per pair??

Chris_F
25-11-2006, 10:25 PM
per seat and in american dollars... Status are expensive... but its a good idea to show you the different weights of various designs

spetz
25-11-2006, 10:52 PM
ah ok I meant thought the prices you said in your above post?

Chris_F
25-11-2006, 10:59 PM
oh... thats for one seat, if your getting rid of dc2 recaros for aftermarket seats youd want something of at least that quality (price range) or you mayaswell stay with what you got ;P

spetz
25-11-2006, 11:13 PM
I might just stay with them actually...
They look too damn good and I am not really willing to put $1000 on top when I have Recaro's already

Thanks for the help though very much appreciated :)

ie. EG6 seats vs EG5 seats

Chris_F
25-11-2006, 11:18 PM
no worries, itd only be 500 on top if you could sell the recaros for 1500... but yea honestly, I'd stick with em, I'd love dc2r ecaros in my car... aside from teh weight i bet they feel great

spetz
25-11-2006, 11:42 PM
Yeah they feel awesome
The only issues I have with them is that mechanics keep sitting on the side bolster which is already starting to stuff up and they piss me off!

Chris_F
25-11-2006, 11:47 PM
damn thatd annoy me.... glue some tacks onto the side boulsters or something :p

Well I have about 4K to spend on my car now and you can read my other thread in the ALL MOTOR section about doing forged internals (engine is apart right now)
The 4K was initially planning on doing a full leather retrim with and fixing them up so if I just put the engine together with standard internals I'll do that

DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT REMOVE YOUR SOUND DEADENING. OMFG. itwas a waste of time, weighs like 1.5kgs all up. so not worth the time and effort. you'll be sacrificing more cabin noise

you'll have to sand it down and then repaint it aswelll so it doesnt rust.

nigs
26-11-2006, 01:08 PM
I'm pretty sure it's omre than 1.5k
Someone actually took theirs out, stuck it in a bag and weighed it.
It was closer to 5kg if I remember, maybe a little over.

EK hatch btw.

i wonder how much a regular integra seat weighs in comparison to the ITR recaro's

bal
26-11-2006, 07:17 PM
i took the majority of the sound deading out of my EG hatch and got a bit over 4kgs yeah its not much but 4 kgs here and 4kgs there with CF bonnet drycell battery etc it all adds up but yeah as ZeForce said spetz is putting more deadening in.

stupid lancer driver :)

if ur planning on adding the sound deadening matting, be aware it weighs quite alot! And since ur looking for lightweight seats, ur obviously concerned about weight savings.

My thoughts exactly....

Spetz: Are you in a real hurry to get this car done? I would probably take a step back and figure out exactly what you are wanting out of the car dude.... not trying to be rude but just seems like your ideas are a bit random and contradictory.

spetz
29-11-2006, 01:57 PM
Yeah I keep changing my mind
That's why it's so damn hard to actually finish it

Ask Bal... how long it just sits for taken apart!

Pick a goal and go for it.

Without a goal you might as well be runnin around in circles.

Runnin around in circles = wasting money.

i think you need to sell the car man and get something that is worth all the trouble

For example: A Honda :)

spetz
29-11-2006, 04:05 PM
haha you homo I told you I would love an EM1 with K20A but the money isn't worth it!
No point in me selling my car for starters as I have just poured cash into it recently and haven't gotten to enjoy it at all, and for the price of EM1 + K + suspension etc I rather buy something REALLY worth while... I think you know what that is!

For anyone else I mean an Evolution Lancer *DROOLZZZZ*

Hi, a fixed seat is illegal and a defect unless its a two seater ie;S2000, also the recaro's you have are your best option because they are ADR approved and have the quick release mechanism so the rear passengers can get out in an emergency, im getting my car engineered and have asked, later.

Muzz
30-11-2006, 10:57 AM
u already have recaros? If ur after a gain in performance, im shur ur money would be better spent elsewhere then on lightweight seats! the difference would be only just noticible! save the money for suspension, engine or bracing IMO.

How ever if u just wanna change the seats u have, cus u dont like ur current ones/ want somthing different, thats cool:p !

bal
30-11-2006, 12:26 PM
as TENGO1 said canrt have fixed unless it a 2 seater

BUT!

you can have fixed seats in your car as long as you take the rears out and get the car registered as a 2 seater so if police pull u over with more than 2 people in the car you can in alot of trouble

qstoria
30-11-2006, 02:45 PM
car needs to be running first so he nev has to worry bout that anyway

bal

word.

SINISTR
30-11-2006, 05:34 PM
Recliners - any brand - recaro, bride, stock - whatever are going to be heavy in comparison to fixed back seats because of the whole structure. There is a lot of metal, springs, supports, frame for the rails, etc etc... all adds up - no surprise they weigh 19kgs but then again 10kgs per seat is not TOO BAD.

metal frame fixed backs will be about 6kgs each and kevlar down to about 4-5kgs.

spetz
02-12-2006, 03:35 PM
Yeah 19 for both wouldn't be too bad sinistr
But unfortunately that is 19kg EACH :(

Qstoria, it's not like your car is running!
And Bal, go get a license so you can drive (if that is you lil Civic goes ;))
