Hi all,

Problem - On the DC2 engine block, timeing belt side, slightly below the last injector, there is a little ditch. I've found some coolant sitting there. Not a lot .... I've seen it a few months back, over the last few months, the rate I'm loosing coolant is minimal so i just decided to keep a close eye on it.
However, 120Km check is coming up so I was thinking I'll get some opinions from u guys on what the possible causes are and go from there.

Cheers

Maybe thermostat, a pic would make it easier. do you mean No1 or No4 injector?

Its from the coolant system!!! :P

Chances are its from the thermostat, thermo fan switch or one of the coolant temp sensors.

Just make sure they're all nice and tight. Maybe run the engine with the bonnet up and watch the engine as it warms up just to see where its coming from??

If its only a small leak it could be a small gasket or even a clip of some sort. You could probably fix it with some gasket sealant.

how can it be the thermostat if he see's the leakage on the timing belt side.

incorrect sealing of the radiator cap could cause a spirt of coolant aimed at anypat of the engine.

I know the ditch your talking about.

Its as you explained, just below the head. I cannot think of anywhere else you can get coolant there but from the head.

cracked radiator? cld be just a very minor crack on the top tank... had a similar problem and got it checked out by local mechanic. used some pump thing to find out if and where the crack is...

if its on timing belt side.. check if its coming out of lower timing belt cover.

if so.. its coming out of the weep valve on the water pump... means its going to go soon..

just more advice if all the others dont work.. =)

apparently a small weep from the water pump is normal, isnt it?

I dont like weepin coolant full stop, especially after i just finished cleaning the shite off my entire exhaust, including the tailpipe lol, from a drain bolt leak last week.

so weepin is a sign of failing components?

Thanx for all the suggestions. I'm try the suggestion of running it with the timing belt cover off and see if i can see the leak. If not, I'll have to get a pressure test done to see if i can find the leak ........

Keep u guys posted.

How did you go with this problem? I just noticed a leak in exactly the same spot on my LS. I figure it's the water pump too but I haven't taken the timing belt cover off yet. Be nice to hear if you sorted your problem out.

OK, I know this is dragging up an old thread, but for the sake of other people who have had the same issue I thought I would post an update. I finally got around to changing the timing belt/water pump and found that the water pump seal was leaking causing a tiny bit of coolant to push upwards into that little "ditch". My water pump was doing this for years with no problem or visible loss of coolant.
