Surprised I didn't see the Mazda 6 amongst the finalists.

But I was darn pleased to see the Euro *gives car a big hug*

Average punters buy a car on looks, features, price and marketing hype. Most don't bother to do much research despite the amount of info.available eg.the net,car mags, sites like drive etc.THATS why i think so many punters buy Commodores!!!

for value the euro has all the good stuff...I do agree with the new camry being underpowered...117KW for a 1400kg car...thats pretty pathetic...the aurion is another story...

Back when it was first released, the 6 was a good car. But unfortunately, Mazda did not choose to upgrade the powerplant to challenge their competitors... Being average doesn't help it reach the final comparison.

The commodore is good value for money though. V6 at such a low price. Pity about the quality.

What was also interesting was that it came third in the people's choice (behind the Commodore SS-V and BMW 335:

There are a lot of people out there who regard the Euro as a good car.

Yea well done Honda. I agree with the decision since based on all round value, nothing on the market is better than Accord euro.

EuroDude

One must wander why they released the normal Thailand Accord here, sales are like 10:1 :p

Hopefully Honda AUS will use the Euro's success an excuse to release the UK Civic Hatch here :D

Hopefully not, thats a terrible looking car that will be priced too high in comparison to the Civic sedans. It will just make consumers lose focus on what the Civic is about(the best value economy car). If they want to bring in a hatch as a type R thats fine but not just the stock hatch, they already have the Jazz at a far more competitive price!

Why would they use the Euro's success to release the UK Civic here?

Why would they use the Euro's success to release the UK Civic here?

Because releasing two similar models and letting the public decide which one to buy will increases sales ;)

For instance IAMVTEC would prefer to get the Thai Civic, but many of us here would prefer the UK civic. You can just imagine how many people considered our Thai Civic but didnt like the styling or prefered a hatch and got a corolla, focus, polo, or mazda3 instead

IAMVTEC
30-11-2006, 01:09 PM
But they can just get the Jazz if they didnt like the Civic sedan!! I agree more choice is good but having too much choice dilutes the focus of the company. I dont think they should release every variety of Honda known to man.

I think by having 2 versions of Accord, is already enough. If they overdo it, nobody would buy Hondas in the future since they know a year or two later, a different model will come out.

It costs over a hundred thousand dollars to do crash testing and ADR compliance papers for each model. Honda isn't going to bring in a model just to find out if people accept it. There must be a reason. For the Accord, they knew that the Euro would not be compared to the previous Camry because of size differences. They can't justify that much expenditure on testing just because they think that the hatch might sell well. Anyway, the civic is in the small sedan class, not hatch. And Honda did bring in the UK hatch as the 7th gen (EP). Nobody wanted to buy them!

And just because the Civic is made in Thailand doesn't make it a bad car. It's the same car as the JDM Civic!

Some good points. But imo I think the Civic Hatch would have done very well considering how many EG and EK civic hatches are out there. The Jazz is more of an Echo style econo-car, rather than a hot hatch ;)

The reason why the EG and EK are so popular now is because they can be had for cheap and have a B series transplanted into them. You can't do that with the new civic.

EuroDude
30-11-2006, 01:52 PM
Yeh but the new Civic hatch would already have a beast of an engine, except for maybe the lower model(s) but you could probably plonk a DC5R engine in there in 10 years with minimal hassle :p

Plus all those EK's and EG's had to of come from somewhere, which means they sold like hot cakes when new.

New civic's engine is the same as the VTi. They don't have the 2.0L option like our Civic Sport. And it's not a beast of an engine. It's a great engine for emissions and fuel consumption. But not power.

A DC5R's K20A won't be a direct swap. You need a new instrument cluster unless you go for a $7000 aftermarket ECU. Add in driveshafts, radiator, custom mounts, custom exhaust, you might as well buy a brand new DC5R if that was possible.

When EK and EGs were new, they were not bought new by people of our age category. Most current owners of EG and EKs bought them 2nd hand.

Nice to know that my new car is a winner. Also reinforces my choice after comparing to numerous alternatives.

opinions of which size best fits a stocke euro??? ( off topic )

tru, i like the double five spokes, the new lux ones arent terrible but they arent great either.

surprising how wheels can dull or brighten a car so much.

Ask steve, he got 20's!!!

I like 18x8's in a +42 or +45. As for which ones, that is up to you!

I'd prefer 8" in +48. +42 just hits the rear fender if you try to get the camber back to spec.

honda do have a nice 17 solid 5 spoke, see honda website accesories section.

but i got quoted 2,700. which i thought was abit rich considering the last 17's i bought were under 2k with rubber.

i have 17x8" +42 offest and my camber is within spec all round - never get rubbing on the rear fender, only very rarely at the front over large bumps (I'd like to run slightly more camber in the front anyway)

If i had the choice though +48 would be much better, at that offest i doubt you'd have to worry about rubbing at all

Yeah, +48 if the guy is following camber specs.

How wide are your tyres? Was referring to 225 width tyres on 8" at +42 offset.

my tyres are a 225 width and my camber is well within spec, what information is the rear fender rubbing issue based off? I've never rubbed in the rear:confused:

Was on another Euro here in Sydney. I checked the rear and the edge of the tyre lined up with the inner edge of the fender. The car wasn't lowered though.

Chris_F
01-12-2006, 06:52 PM
The edge of my tyre is about in line with the inner edge of the fender as well and it's about the same in the front (1 or 2mm further out). If you don't lower the car excessively the offset and width works, you'd have to run more aggressive negative camber if you wanted to go lower than 2-2.5" though.

On a side note... did anyone else vote for the peoples choice award? I voted for the euro and apparently the vote enters you in a draw for a cash/car prize (can't remember)

225 can use 7.5", who go 8"? heavier :D

got my rims second hand, so i didn't really have a choice (they don't come up that often). But running a wider rim should make for a firmer sidewall and reduce ballooning (225 with 7" ballooned a bit)? I was also considering a 235 tyre but the offest of the rim might not make that possible. Just on a side a 17x7.5 te37 would have been slightly heavier anyway and i don't really like the look of ce28n with the OEM kit.;)
