hi all

im new to the forums and am about to buy an integra in about three weeks....

just a few questions.....

firstly, any suggestions on which insurance company i should be looking into (its going to be under my mums name since i wont be able to get insurance/ itll cost too much)....

i looked into NRMA/AAMI/Just Cars they wanted $2000 (for a 1996 vtir)......is that heaps for a 41year old female driver who has been driven for 11 years with only 1 incident (last year - car was a ride off)....

secondly, if worst comes to worst, ill have to get a GSI if insurance is gonna be too high....my question is, whats the main difference with the GSi and VTIR (engine wise).....is it easy to convert the GSI into a VTec...(sorry for the dumb questions....ive never owned a honda before...)

There's an insurance thread like a few posts down.

If it's going to be under your mum's name you might as well just go with the company she's already. Maybe you could make them do a deal.

IMO if you can't afford the insurance don't buy the car. Don't do a dodgy like all your friends etc... At the end of the day if you screw up and the insurance company finds out your the main driver you lose everything.

I had to pay $2700 for the first year when i had my vtir, it sucks but that's what you have to do.

difference between GSI and VTIR... bit more power. Is it worth doing an engine swap? hell no. If you did a bit of research just by calling the insurance companys, you'll probably figure out that a VTIR is maybe $500 more then a GSI on insurance. Engine swap can be whatever price I have no idea but to me an engine swap sounds expensive. You do the maths.

Anways i'd rather get a vtir then a gsi.
Good Luck

If it's under a parents name, the "normal" everyday companies like NRMA/Suncorp/GIO/AAMI etc would probably be the easiest route to take.
If you write the car off as the driver, remember that there are age/misc. excess fees too.

Difference between the GSi and VTiR Integras are mainly the engine and ABS system. Do a quick search on the forums and you'll find more than a few informative threads.
Best way to attain "VTEKK y0" in the little GSi is a straight engine swap (B18c2/7, B20 etc) or an LS/VTEC setup (search on www.google.com or www.honda-tech.com). These options aren't quite worth it if you're not a huge car head and have big plans for the car. And if you ARE, you'd simply save up for the VTiR in the first place anyway. Also, if you do a swap or LS/VTEC job, your insurance premium would once again change.....

good luck.

thanks for the replies......

ive just been through a few pages of threads, and have answered all my questions....

excuse my ignorance....

looks like ill be getting a vti-r.....

you guys recon that a straight swap for a 96-98 vti-r with my 98 AU Fairmont Ghia (tickford suspension and wheels) is reasonable..???

aust. fleet sales wanted to give me a 98 GSI for a straight swap, but they are rip offs.....

I'm 21 and CGU were going to insure me for $2,500 with rating 3 for a '99 VTi-R and value for $27,600. Just Cars would have cost me $1,500 with agreed value of $22,000. So I dunno where you're getting your quotes from. Are you 41, or is that your parents.

Cos if you're 41 and getting quoted that then you're getting screwed. But then again you've only or your parents have only been driving for 11 years and totalled a car - that is not very handy.

Go for the VTi-R, no point in getting a GSi, if you can't afford the insurand, like ironfist said you should get another car. And hypthetically, if you were to swap your AU with a my '98 Tegg, I would definitely want some more $$$ coming my way for sure!

skoota my mum is 41 and she is getting those quotes (and thats without even mentioning that she rode off a car last year)....

and u really think your integra is worth that much????....what is it....a vti-r then maybe....even so you can pick one up for about $16000-20000.....the AU cant be worth much less then that.....its just a bitch trying to sell privately as not that many people liked this shape, hence i wanna just trade it in...ill get some more quotes and let u know....

ill look into it more in a couple of weeks (when uni exams have finished)..

$19,100

Apparently that was the market value, which I thought was rather generous... but maybe that's just Tassie ;)

It's insured with RACT so no use at all to non-Tasmanians... I am just proud of being 22 and paying bugger all insurance :D

Go for the VTi-R, no point in getting a GSi

Why? GSi's are basically identical in every way to a VTiR except for the engine and ABS system.

I already said who it was with lol, RACQ. My parents are multiple policy holders though and have had rating 1 and they are old! :P I am only 18 though, so its still quite good that the premium is that low!

Just to clear things up - I almost bought a '99 VTi-R and they were the quotes I got for me. I don't actually own one - can't be ****ed selling my EK so I'm gonna wait and get a DC2R or R33 GTR - such different cars lol.

Anywho, I'm not dissing the GSi's at all but I'd just rather have the VTi-R - it's just my opinion and most ppl have the same as well... 8)

My Dad is over 40 and he insures my car Honda Integra Gsi, and he pays $2000
well it was about 1800 until I had to claim once so that boosted the price to $2000
We are with CGU.

Jave: What company are you under $550??? damn thats cheap.

Yeh I probably will go the DC2R - but rear wheel drive is sooooo tempting!!!! But DC2R's are so much sexier than R33's.

P.S. I love Honda :D

I guess I could say the same thing for ever single possible turbo car on the road then yer? ;)

and for the record, on a 2001 lude, Im paying 1150 full comp but Im over 25 :)

type one
17-06-2004, 08:54 PM
i'm 25, i'm with AAMI, 3 mods on the car, fully comp, DC2R = $850.

To pay 2K for a GSi is crap. To pay anything over 1.5K for a Honda is Crap.

Shop around people, there are plenty of good deals to be had. Try ringing on different days to get different operators LOL.

the cheapest i found after calling EVERY single insurer is $1600 CGU (thats under my parents name...) and 1750 with $4000 of mods.....

that sounds reasonable for a vtir doesnt it??

Spinout
22-06-2004, 10:15 AM
Yeh I dont know how the other guys pay $500 something for full insurance off their parents aswell.
Im wondering...

But my parents pay god dam $2000 for full insurance with CGU
but I think thats because I crashed once and had to claim.
before that it was about $1800.

Hmm I dont know, anyways there is this new thing that AMII is doing, you can get 50% off your currently premium but the catch is that you have to be willing to pay a higher excess fee when you do claim.

Sounds good.

talked to CGU again today, and found out that they dont cover mods at all.... so basically you can do whatever you want to the car (and tell them), but it wont be covered in the policy and the premium doesnt go up...

still good i rekon...cheapest i found....
