As the title suggests, thinking of a weekend fun car.

I'm considering a GenII CRX stripped and lightened, and a mild NA engine run around. So what are my options, keeping a reasonable budget in mind. Most of the work will be shared between myself and mates with all the right gear and a friend who owns a local performance workshop for mostly advice on tuning options etc etc. I'm not that familiar with engine codes, if I can ask you tell me what car the engine comes out of and a rough estimate on engine cost (inc loom and ecu) that will help alot also.

Cheers..

If your on a budget go the b16a half cut as youll get everything you need for the conversion. Also saves time and hassle looking for specific parts. Should get a decent half cut for 3k.

If i had my time again,i def would not be buying a half cut, there is really not much u can use off any halfcut for a gen 2 crx swap.

All i got from a DC2 was a cluster, brake booster & MC,wiring loom & half the drive shafts, most of this is superfluous crap that I couldve got just as easy from elsewhere.

Better off just buying a good engine package & sourcing the appropriate parts to make it fit.

Unless your a diehard NA like myself, throw any ideas of 'reasonable budget' out the window right now unless u like being very disappointed when your mate in his budget turbine package leaves u cryin every time.

unless u like being very disappointed when your mate in his budget turbine package leaves u cryin every time.

Most of my mates with quick cars have 500hp+ Supras, GTR's etc etc, I just can't afford cars like that, but they're good enough to let me drive them from time to time :D

I just want something thats light on its feet (I don't want lightning) and can be thrown around a corner, I don't see straight line performance as much fun - trust me I've driven a 700hp Supra and its not much fun when the back of the car is going faster than the front, haha...

Anyways, back to the topic, quick searches has revealed quite a large price range for half cuts (mostly auto  ), anywhere from $2400 - $4000 (SSS have a nice looking cut, looks like mostly cosmetic that needs to be tidied up a bit = no drama). So that tells me an engine package could be had under $2k - would I need the g/box? or the CRX 5 speed be OK?

Are there any specialist Honda engine importers? I guess budget is around $5k for the initial setup, then what ever as things progress. Eventually I see the future of the car as being limited to track only, but baby steps first...

My mate has a JDM B16a SIR engine about to go into his CRX, he bought it for $2200 and is doing the head and a few other adjustments. He wants it to rev out to 10K rpm like the one in the good motoring video that eats everything in its path

pending on your budget, a gen2 will pretty much have a similar history if not the same to most. Modified Aesthetics(looks) wise bodykit, rims, nice paint job etc etc.
Thou careful attention should me made to a vehicle that is of 17+ years of age.

Si (aus spec model) contains the D16a (1.6L DOHC non-vtec ) with an average of 180,000 on the clock. Some in better condition than other thou with most being mis-treated with quick harsh gear changes!Market will vary pending on modifications. Stock standard crx to be around 4-6g's
here is a pic of the aus spec engine (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y9/Sammy_Po/Engin.jpg)

SIR (jap spec model) contains the potent B16a (1.6L Vtec) often with a market price of around 10g for a stock standard CRX.

As much as people would say SIR would be better for the engine(performance) aspect!Parts are hard to come by even to find a bodykit place that stocks SIR kits is rare as say a headlight or something else for that matter.

If its a project that ur after go for the Si in a way i dont regret it 1 bit. Thou i would never ever ever spend more money to fix that d16a lump!

Im undergoing a conversion myself for my SI and for peace of mind and alot of less headaches and stress. My approach was simple...

Halfcut purchase included[HIGHLY RECOMMENDED]:
Engine + gbox
ECU
and generally everything in the engine bay of the half cut itself.
Most of which u dont need anyways.

Custom/Aftermaket:
HASPORT Engine mounts
HASPORT driveshaft ( u can make ur own custom 1's no drama in that)
Aftermarket extractors or custom, or be able to use the existing stock exhaust manifold that the engine came with.
Brake will have to upgraded (others will use other model integra or even aftermarket yet again willawood etc etc)

The above information is onli a rough plan to which u can draw ur ideas from for ur project.

The higher you go in engine capacity the more tricker it gets ... common sense kind of stuff. Gen2 CRX's r so small in itself conversion themselves will be a decision making process.

Q.Should i keep power steering?
Q.Should i keep air con?

in regards to keep it lite ur decision to go the CRX is a nice 1
if there is any probs feel free to hit me up!

k series and bonnet clearances are an issue in itself cause of the sheer size of the engine block.

SIR CRX bonnet seems to work like a charm as most ppl say. Thou u can even see on the pic a slight notch underneath the bonnet to make it fit.

But as i said before ^ in teh above post.
powersteering and A/C can make the job of the conversion just that extra bit tricker.

Others have gone for a more drastic approach
