Hi,

On my DC2, the key ignition is starting to get really really hard. It's as if the key is getting stuck. To remove it you have to push the key in a little and turn. However it doesnt really want to go in.

In the last few days its been getting stuck and taking me 1-2 mins to play and remove it.

How do I fix this? Will I have to replace my keys etc too?

I was hoping getting the s2000 button start installed to. What options do I have?

Thanks

my key is just more worn on one side, have you tried turning the key over and using the other side.

Try your spare key. If it does the same thing and gets stuck, you can replace the keybarrel.

WD-40 ftw :)

Dirt/sand/whatever could have simply made it into the barrel from your key being in your pocket or ear.

Don't use WD40 as it damages rubber and plastics.

Any liquid spray would cause quicker dirt buildup and an oily pocket as well.

If you have to lube, use graphite powder lube.

Thanks, I'll try my spare key.

I did notice that sometimes it works like a chaim, and sometimes it doesn't. I always thought it was random and not linked to the key itself. It feels VERY notchy when turning to car on, but by the time you realise that, its too late and removing the key is a pain in the ass.

Try your spare for a while. If it happens with your spare as well, then it's the keybarrel. Otherwise it is your main key.

I had to replace a keybarrel on a 3 year old car. The key would go in but not turn at all.

Okay, spare key works good. Thanks.

What does this mean though? The threads on my main key are just warn out? Would getting a new key recut from my spare key fix the problem?

The cylinder even with the spare key still feels SLIGHTLY notchy. Compared to my 2002 WRX for example. Is this normal on the DC2? Anything I can do?

Don't compare it to your WRX. Each brand uses different a keybarrel manufacturer.

Use the spare key first. If you like it and it feels like before you had this problem, then get another key cut from the spare to replace your original. If your car has a factory immobiliser, then you'll have to transfer the chip over or buy a Honda key and get the chip programmed at a dealer.

95 dc2 dont have factory immobilizer. It's fine. I was only comparing it to the WRX cos I wanted to know if even on a brand new DC2, the key cylinder was meant to be slightly notchy.

It depends on the key type and manufacturer. My key is slightly notchy, but our 94 Accord isn't, even when new. See if any DC2 owners reply with their experience.

Usually I have no problems with it, only occasionally the power doesn't come up - one side of the key bit worn, so I turn it over and its fine.

DC2 owner #2 reporting no such issues with mine, as smooth as the day it left the factory.

Thanks, my second key is perfect, which I'm currently using. I'll use it to create another spare and hopefully that'll do the trick.

 If you want an original Honda key, you can always buy a blank from the dealer (or ebay)

DC2 owner #3.

Ignition is sometimes notchy but never been unable to start the car. I have a 98 DC2 with under 100k's BTW.

Good luck
