man i drove for 10 hours straigh on 3600 rpm on my way back from canberra.

you'll be fine. If you're worried just vary your speed everynow and then just to give the engine a change. Doubt it'll help the engine but might give you some piece of mind lol.

lol thanks guys. just thought it might give the engine a hard time keeping a constant 4g rpm.

if your worried take some oil and coolant with you just incase you bust a hose or get a leak or something.

Wat else can you do apart from that lol

bigger engine won't do much.

Different gear ratios will tho.

its always good preventative measures to ensure you check a few key things on your car before the trip such as

coolant
tyre pressue
oil level
window washer level

never hurrts to be too safe

He's not using full throttle. It won't get hot as long as his coolant system is working properly.

I've driven long distance on the freeway @ 4500rpm the whole way and it is alright.

not to mention the cool air on the freeway....

constant speed and lots of air will be fine with the heat. Its only when you are going full ball that your gonna need a oil cooler. just crusing will be fine

Most importantly over the summer period is to constantly keep an eye on your temperature....

I've done about 2 hours between 6000 and 8500rpm in my CRX and the temperature didn't go above normal :P

everything works fine in the car, changed the coolant and put good stuff in about 3000kms ago and changed the oil about 50kms ago.

so if the revs are high but the temp doesnt go up does that mean the engine is ok? ive seen some cars on youtube.com that are like mine, one is sitting on 6500 rpm doing 200kmh. i thought that would kill the engine

Well, you won't be doing 200km/h @ 6500rpm for long before the cops get you. So 110km/h @ 4000 or so would be alright.

Normal driving, Hwy/back roads. If everything is working fine, you'll have no problems with Temps.

The driving I was talking about was sub 130kmph in 1st/2nd/3rd. Can't say I know what constantly sitting on 200kmph as only hwys and fwys have straights long enough to test out such a theory and as much as I reckon the speed limits should be increased on some fwys (not decreased like they're doing in the NT, despite the fact that you can see ahead as far as the horizon), speeding is not worth the risk.

My car is stock except for I/H/E, so the cooling system is actually coping with more power than it's expected to from the factory and it handles almost any abuse I throw at it (temperature wise).

If you're particularly concerned, just take it to a mechanic and get a major precautionary service (ie belts and water pump) and ask him to look for any other potential problem areas. If that doesn't give you peace of mind, I don't know what will!

For old cars, it's a good idea to flush the coolant and put some new coolant in before going on a long summer trip. And top up the engine oil off course.

My civic had crusty 6 year old coolant in it and it overheated significantly (temp guage was at 3/4) on a long hot trip, engine performance was terrible. oops lol

Don't forget to check your spare tyre and make sure you've got basic tools. It's just plain embarrassing if its something as simple as that!

Most important of all, though, is to drive SAFE! Too many young people in major MVAs and it ain't the death that worries me it's when they wind up in wheelchairs and can't eat or piss for themselves that's the sad part.

thanks guys. i wont be speeding. im the most qualified to drive out of all my mates and im the youngest by 2 years! ive learnt from all their mistakes and i dont care much for speeding or burnouts etc. the only speeding i do is on an open road where i can see that their are no hazards coming up.and only a couple over( 10kmh) is all i would do. ive had my car serviced recently and the guy said my car is in very good shape for 16 years old and 250,000 kms. so that makes me happy lol. thanks for the tips and advice guys.

since when ?

That's in NSW. I don't think VIC has that restriction.

EuroDude

For NSW P-Platers, isnt it

1st year = max 70km/h
2nd year = max 80km/h
3rd year = max 90km/h

That's what the VIC government should consider bringing in! :p

i just done a trip from melb CBD to winton raceway today
keeping 110km@3000rpm no worries at all
btw,my car is an auto & have similiar km's as ur's
don't even have to top up any fluid when back home(except petrol...lol)

so if ur car is in good sharp,no worries
