View Full Version : DC5 ECU Light on after Drags

SINISTR

mates got a DC5 - took it to the drags on wednesday night and after a few runs and a bit of wheelspin his engine light came on and staying on.

He disconnected the battery out of the car for a while and hasn' changed the outcome - light still on.

Can anyone advise what could be possibly the cause of the light comming on?

everything else on the car is fine, its running right, no smoke, no leaks etc.

Is there a Selenoid to reset the ECU rather than removing the '-' terminal off the battery?

cheers

Mike

just pop into ya local dealer for a hds check. they'll check for what code is logged, then clear it off the system for you. if the light returns and the same code is logged it'll mean there's definitely someone wrong with the relevant part.
they shouldnt really charge you for it coz they'll want your business if you need to come back and fix it

];1001738']Stock ECU?

yes it is.

im thinking he should be able to reset using the FUSE under the bonnet?

Panda: yes, he could go to the dealer but dealer already told him 18th Dec is the earliest they could, even just to test it.

Any authorized Honda shop can do it if it is under warranty.

Buy your own OBD2 Tester/Scanner from eBay, they go for around $30 ftw

You can find the OBD2 Pxxxx codes (including VTEC code additions) in google

wont these things still produce a manual fault code with the SCS short?

No, apparently almost all 1996+ cars use the new OBD2 Diagnostics system, which give a much more detailed error code.

Since there are hundreds maybe thousands of codes, its hard to output the long code via the engine light. There is no Plug Short trick. They use a bigger plug (usually under the drivers dash) instead, which requires an OBD2 scanner device or Honda's HDS device used at dealers.

Ive pulled manual codes out of a '99 teg OBD2.

The OBD2 scan just gives more accurate info on the codes, such as fuel system code u'll get 2 PXXX codes one for too lean, one for too rich off the scan instead of just one manual code saying fuel system prob.

dont know bout these new fancyarse DC5's though?

apparently the code was being thrown by the 2nd O2 sensor.

He's going to plug in his Hondata ecu and run it stock DC2 maps - as apparently the ECU only uses the 1st O2 sensor anyway (manifold one).

CHeers for the help guys.

i plugged in the hondata ecu taht i havent had tuned yet and ran it wiht a base map. i came back with an error code in the kmanager software and i looked it up on the honda service manual available from hondata.com.au.

so all good, now i need to get a new secondary o2 sensor from honda $350+ (excluding install) :zip:

so the problem was a faulty secondary o2 sensor?

so the problem was a faulty secondary o2 sensor?

Pretty sure it was :) Full of black carbon soot when it came out :p

Well thats what you'd expect because its in the exhaust. But that shouldn't hinder its function.

Do you know why the sensor went faulty?

could be a number of reasons that i will never know as its in the bin now..

could be cas its running lean since i put in my i/h/e?
could be cas of age.. its over 100,000kms old.
