Hey guys

my Gf currently owns a Generation 5 Honda prelude, VTIR 5speed manual. I have bought her a series 1 VAFC through a private sale for xmas. I wired up both my AVCR and RSM meter in my Civic, and was wondering if the VAFC was similar at all? also if i wire it up would there usually be a default setting on the unit that would leave the car running standard? so it could be driven to a tuner to tune? or would it have to be wired in AND setup and tuned in the one go?

Also are these units very hard to tune? and are there bad consequences if not done properly?

thanks in advance

Lyle

To answer your first question. Yes they are similar to the rsm etc. If you did them you should be fine. Not sure about the rest.

There is a menu option to return to default settings that you can do before you turn the car on. I think this leaves it at stock settings.

basically is there a possibility that if i install it, and wire it correctly? but still have some previous maps on there? and consequently shit hitting the fan?

Like I said. I'm pretty sure there is a return to default settings option. So the first time you turn the key after installing it just turn it to the on position. Which should power up the vafc. Then just navigate to the right place. This will set all the adjustment points to zero so there should be no change to the signals going to the ecu.

At least that's what I can remember. It's been a while since I had mine. Just download the manual and have a look at that.

"Eclipsor" Is correct. There is a option in the menu to reset the unit. Once this is done the unit has no +/- corrections and basically just acts a information meter ( displays votages e.t.c).. I learnt the hard way when i first installed mine, i turned the car on and it was running like a heap of shit, only to realise it had the old settings of the previous owner on it. I then reset it , car ran smooth again, and it was like it was never installed.

Just reset it and dont touch it until you can take it to your dyno tuner, so he can adjust the corrections properly in accordance with the dyno readings.

Good luck.
