Disclaimer: The following is provided as a GUIDE ONLY, and neither myself nor Ozhonda take any responsibility for the outcomes of someone else doing the following. You follow these steps at your own risk!

this process is practically the same for eg/ek/dc same concept, just may differ a little.

tools used:
* pliers
* 3/8 rachet, 10mm socket
* 1/4 rachet, 10mm socket
* 10mm ring spanner and rachet spanner
* phillips and flat head screw drivers

* honda coolant
* honda thermostat

aim: replacing faulty thermostat.

step 1:
Drain coolant from the coolant plug at the bottom of the radiator which is circled.

step 2:
take off the intake arm, unplug hoses, sensors and lines and everything else that is connected to the arm.
at the bottom of the arm there is like a resonator, which is held on by a hose clamp, undo the hose clamp when you take off the arm.

the easiest way to take off the arm is leaving the top of the airbox connected to it as well, that's only for 4screws or you can use a 8mm socket.

step 3:
disconnect the plug from the sensor on the thermostat housing.

step 4:
using pliers, take off the hose clamp and pull the bottom radiator hose off the thermostat housing.
also next the hose is a bracket with a 10mm bolt on it, take it off with a 10mm socket, also underneath that bracket is another bolt that connects the bracket to the thermostat housing, take that off as well, also a 10mm socket.

step 5.
take off the thermostat housing by taking off 2 10mm bolts at the top and bottom of the housing.
the bottom one might be hard to get to, if you can't manage to squeeze pass the harness to get to it, you can use a ring spanner.
the the housing should just come off.

then you pull out the thermostat, if it seems to be stuck, just grab it with pliers, and slightly just pull on it, and it should come straight off, put in the new thermostat and, re-connect everything in order.

remember to screw the plug in at the bottom of the raditator before you actually start pouring coolant as well.
lol.

here are some of the thermostat pics and housing pics.
this is what happens when you use water or non honda coolant most of the time.

hahaha, ums....
well previously, it was water and some other coolant, but a couple of months ago i changed to honda coolant, but by that time, everything was corroded.
the iavc pipe actually snapped becuase of the corrosion.

that's the only gasket the thermostat one, nothing on the actual housing.

How much was the new thermostat and when would you know if you have a faulty thermostat?

$55
well the bottom hose was still quite cool compared to the top one after a drive. so it was blocked.
or it could be stuck open as well, depending on the situation.
and you can also test it, by taking out your thermostat, and submerge it in boiling water, and see if it opens up.
