View Full Version : Exhaust too loud on 5G lude!
Hi guys/girls, I have a dilemma and wondering if you could help me out. I currently have a free-flowing exhaust system setup in my car consisting of a 12inch perforated resonater and a 4inch tip cannon.
The drawback is I drive 15mins and my ears are ringing! I think about 97-99dB :thumbdwn:
I have contacted a few guys about getting it quieter and they all have different opinions.
The one I liked the most was to get a bigger, 24inch louvered resonator installed first, then have a look at getting the muffler changed. If I was to change muffler as weel, I don't know whether to go a $120 dogleg sports muffler, or a fully fledged $500 muffler from someone like flowmaster.
I was even considering getting the larger resonater and placing a stock muffler on (or a remus muffler?)
Could some of the 5G lude owners give their advice on exhaust setups? I want something with a low note that is not loud. I want to be able to hear my music clearly in the car again, but have my car sounding a lil bit mean
Thankyou...
PS. also if you guys know any good shops in syd, i'm in the penrith area.

How about just add an exhaust silencer?
(Those round plate things you insert into the tip)
ps. have a look at these threads:

That's because all you have is a resonator. Your cannon is probably not doing much. Look at putting an additional resonator in series with your first and get a proper muffler with sound dampening material (assuming you want to sacrifice that little bit of performance for quietness)

Yeah i've thought about those, but they just make you lose some power. I used to have one on my corolla. I'd honestly rather get a muffler than the silencer tho.
Thanks anyway guys, your help is appreciated :)

start buy getting a 2nd resonator
if its still too loud, lose the n1 muffler and choose something quiter like a magnaflow muffler (they have heaps of styles so you can choose)

you still want some form of flow.. hows about a genuine mugen twin loop?
OR
Magnaflow have their large oval mufflers which i found do quite well, still have some sportz but are not totally ear blowing.
my car ran 82dB which consisted of 2.25 pipe, high flow resinator and the oval magnaflow single tip. twin tip would look sexi too, but it was a lil more $$

2nd resonator is required dude....go to a shop and say....make my exhaust quieter....simple....theyll put on another resonator, too easy
Thanks for all your replies :D
Ok everyone seems to be tipping towards getting another resonator. If it's still loud, whats the best plan of attack? A cheapie sports muffler, a magnaflow muffler, or a twin loop? It doesn't need to be loud or have a massive performance gain from stock.
Magnaflow mufflers are quiet for a straight through.

I had a spoon N1 with a 2.25 press bent aluminized catback. Had one maybe 17" resonator, and it was too loud. Added another 13" or so and its great. No drony-ness...definitly louder than stock, but not too bad. Resi wont solve all of your issies. I think the biggest problem u have is a big pipe at the end of your system - being the cannon...i reckon get a twin loop or a magnaflow first before you chop you b pipe and get another resi.

correct :)
wat type of piping have u got on it? mandrel bent or is it a pre-made bolt on, or press bent?
if two resonators wont work try getting a xforce twin loop or mugen twin loop, they are really queit.

I've got 2.25" press bent steel. How would this affect it tho?

2.5in with an xforce twin loop with no resonators bar the cat is very reasonable. Much quieter than a cannon muffler...

2.25 should....be ok...
larger piping = more noise la!
Its the high volume muffler on the back. It will always drone and be noisy with one of those on.
Change it to a twinloop or something quieter before u get a ressi.

Personally I didn't think anyone could be interested in obtaining my system!

mate, i have same engine as you ( h22a i assume ) i have gone through numerous exhausts trying to quieten it down and now have a system that whilst is sporty and makes a nice note, its not overly loud ( you cant even hear a drone at hwy cruising )
what my system consists of is a 2.25" cat back, a 12" resonator and a magnaflow street series straight through muffler.
I had a generic tip welded on the end and it looks nice and sounds awesome too whilst easily being legal noise.
