Hey all. Firstly, i have read heaps of the other threads on cars running rich and the number of kms people get out of a tank but none of them really fit my problem.

My ek auto civic cxi, when almost empty gets about 300km. But the thing is when i fill up [the tank is suppose to be 45L] when my fuel is almost empty it only takes about a little over 30 litres to get it full. This means i use approx 10L/100km << this aint the worst efficiency ever [could be better], but i guess my two main problems are: why does it only take me 30L of petrol to get from almost empty to full opposed to like 45L and the resultant why am i only getting 300km out of a tank?

Anyone else have this problem?

What do you reckon i should get checked/ replaced first? - as in which would be the most common and likely problem?

Thanks in advance !

Could be your fuel level sensor thingo (don't know what its called) or the gauge in the cluster is fault.

Also, when the tank reads empty theres always a few litres left in there to get you to a servo. (not 15 litres tho lol)

got the same problem with my EK sedan...still havent found a solution...but im guessing maybe the fuel pump doesnt reach down all the way into the tank and hence detecting that there is no fuel left when there actually is.

I've learned to live with it :)....not like u pay for 45L and get 35L, lol....still use up the same fuel eventually anyway

'when almost empty gets about 300km" define almost empty.
when the fuel light turns on or when the arm on the guage is pointing to 'almost' E
also is ur car modfied in anyshape or form, how is ur driving style like, type of roads do you drive on, highway? metro traffic style ? what type of fuel do you use, does ur guage actually read propley.
questions u must ask urself.

normal problem. dont worry bout it.
my light never comes on when i reach the E and i can only fill up 35 litres.
if your darring. go drive it till your car bogs down. bring a tin of fuel tho. and see how much more you can still drive after you reached your "E" :) prob get you another 100+ kms

nah dont think tank is 45L about 35-40L

try changing your fuel filter/air filter. reset ecu easy DIY things to try and improve your fuel economy.

this is wot i belive
yes the tanks whole capacity is 45L
of that 45L 10L is reserve
so hence 35L on avg wud b the amount u'd b filing
so, wen ur reading/calculating ur km/L use the 35L or how much u fill up.

10L for reserve...isnt that a tad much?

10L sounds about right for reserve. My other car has a 55L tank and light comes on when around 45L used.
I have tried 2 different fuel tanks and 2 different gauge clusters and always have the same result. Civic has 45L tank but you'll nearly always fill up and only put 35L in it.
Is2K - Fuel economy doesn't sound too good. Have you tried changing filters (fuel and air) and spark plugs ??
I have a modified civic and I still get 450-500Km of mainly highway driving from 35L.

hey thanks peeps for the replies, keep them coming =]

Yes, my air filter and spark plugs have been changed not too long ago.

So does anyone know for sure how big an ek civic's fuel tank is?

Honda spec is 45L for EF, EG, EH, EJ, EK fuel tank. Not sure about other models.

Is your driving mainly stop start city driving ??? If so, that would explain the higher consumption.
A civic should get between 6.5 and 7.5L/100km for highway driving and anywhere up to 11L/100km for city driving/heavy pedal driving but that's dependent on the model and modifications, but most should fit within that.

Service the car... lol

I changed oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs and it made a pretty dam good difference in terms of milage. The car also didn't feel as slow.

I've got a 99 Gli, auto sedan with a boot full of audio gear (sub and 2 amps). I can get around 300kms - 450kms depending on how I drive, obviously 300kms is with a very heavy right foot but on average i'd be getting 350-400kms.

yup as others have said ~ service the car.

Also look at replacing air filter and fuel filter - these can have a drastic effect on economy.

ALSO CHECK YOUR TYRE PRESSURE ! TOO LOW = BAD MILEAGE
