Hey, I am due for Rego + Insurance in afew weeks and i really need to know if my car needs an Engineers Cert.
It is a 1994 Honda Civic Sedan with an Integra GS-R motor (b18c1)
I understand that if the capacity increases by 15% or more it does, but what about emissions as its not a motor from australia?

thanks for your help
Christian

how old is the motor too

if its older than the car you may be in some trouble

ask whoever did the swap(if u didnt do yourself),they should know someone to do the bluey for u.if not pm me,i'll tell ya where i got mine(gladesville area).

no need for one, get the pink then get a blue slip saying that you changed motors.

Easy.

Engineering Cert would cost about 1,200 I believe for an engine conversion to an engine with +15% capactity anyway, for those who are interested.

so no probs with the emissions?
thanks guys! really apreciated

I think they'll cover the emissions test when engineering the engine.

I wouldn't think you'd have emission issues anyway.

lol yeahh but i dont want to have to get an engineering certificate haha its money i dont have and dont want to spend on that lol

im not getting mine engineered too much hastles. a couple wanted full emission testing done on it which was like about 2g plus about 1200 for the cert. u wont have to get emission if you can prove that ur motor is equivalent to aus spec emmisions or us spec, for this u need genuine documents that state this so u mite need to hunt around. otherwise try going to one that had engineered what u have before otherwise they have no idea what to do and will slug u cos the cant be stuffed doing it. in melb the cheapest i found was rowan at cartech, 300 for first inspecton, 300 for final and report, plus extras that need fixing but i didnt want to take the risk yet until im a bit more cashed up.

$1500 is the MAX for engineers certificate......

yeahh the mechanic called the RTA and asked them and they said its fine, no need for the Eng. Cert. so its all good... passed Pink & Blue slip :) thanks heaps for all your help!

Good work.

Also, 1,500 for an Engineering Certificate isn't Max.

It's all up to what you get engineered.
Each thing you want looked at usually has it's set price.

well i agree^ .. im jus repeating what the owner at greenacre smash repairs sed..

All good, for general modifications I wouldn't think it would go far past 1,000. If you've modified a plethora of things, and are looking to ensure that everything is roadworthy, then you're looking at more ;)

You'll need an engineers certificate for the more than 15% capacity increase in the engine size

LoL ! i know aye pretty old thread. . . .

what involves getting a eng cert?

and does this mean wen i get an eng cert i then go for and blue slip?

Bayani

The cert states your car complies with specific ADRs.
And yes, then you can go for your Bluey.

Go to the RTA and get the list of Engineering Signatories, or you can give them a call - they will have a list too.

^^^^ thanks Bayani. . .

one more quick question.
sorry to be a pain but b4 i go for the cert and bluey, will i need a brake upgrade to support the engine yeah?

Bayani
08-12-2007, 04:25 PM
Don't consider yourself a pain. it's better to ask now, than regret it later. :)
But yes, a brake upgrade should be done, not as a matter of getting a bluey, but for safety.

But in terms of Complaince, I believe you will need to regardless. ;)

So for a fairly run of the mill EG B18C no eng cert is required? Cool.

Bayani
09-12-2007, 05:52 PM
Hold back there.

It all depends on what engine you transplanted OUT of the car. if the old engine is 15% less capactity, you will need a cert.

isn't it in engine capacity, not how much power.

Thanks, yes. Couldn't think of the word. :D
Edited!

Blue slip of Engineering Certificate?

Bayani

A Bluey is an inspection SIMILAR to a pink slip.

If you car has not been registered for longer than 3 months, a Blue Slip is required.

The Blue Slip is a more rigid inspection than a Pink Slip.

For a Blue Slip you make sure you car is road worthy. :)
If you don't, the Blue Slipper will tell you what needs to be done to ensure it will be.
