Knock noise when depress clutch?

Have any idea on the ED Honda CIVIC 1991 hatch, how good the clutch and gearboxes are? Or the main problems after say...350,000kms?
I'm trying to work out whether I have a gear box prob or a clutch prob o rmaybe both. My gearbox was replaced 30,000kms ago with a better secondhand one. but now, it grabs and it hard to get into gear. There is also a knock sound sometimes when I am depressing the clutch, especially when changing down.....any takers?

Bad synchros usually causes the hard gearchanges, so it sounds like u need to recondition or replace the gearbox again.

The knock sound could be a bad thrust bearing.

Have you tried changing the gearbox fluid? A fresh refill of Honda MTF may help. If it all still happens after the fluid change, then get a tranny mech to give the car a drive and diagnose the problem.

Bugger. Thanks heaps for your help. I'll try the fluid change but l think you are right about the gearbox. I just wanted somone else to say it!!LOL
