View Full Version : EG Civic vs n15 Pulsar SSS

I've noticed a few SSS's around my area and they seem to go alright, what variation of Civic (Si, VTi, VTiR etc) could keep-up with one of these beasts. What to you guys think of them? Anyone had any experiences or runs with one?
Note: n15 is the '96-'00 hatch model

i've seen an n14 with an intake and exhaust pull a 15.1. i'd like to see an si or vti do that...

Tough call and depending on mild mods, it's either car to tell you the truth. I'd lean towards the Nissan over everything except the VTiR - and even then I have a feeling that the VTiR would struggle.

SIKCVC
09-06-2004, 12:28 AM
I'd say the SSS would get the VTiR on launch but after VTEC enguagment it would be all over for the SSS. DUnno though never driven either of them :P My friend drives an SSS, maybe I should find out for sure :P

what the ****?
vtir would eat sss.

i thought the NA sr20de had like 104kw at engine??

Si had 94kw.

and honda drivers are better drivers... ;)

vti has 88kw i think. :?

i dunno, but i thought a vti would even woop, ****!

Hahaha, I was just curious to see what kind of responses would pop up and it was exactly as I expected, biased! I lied: I've driven a VTi, Si, and SSS and the SSS would absolutely smash the other two. Cant say about the VTiR as I've never driven one. You cant jump into the argument and say "yeah a modded Si would win" unless you're comparing it to a modded SSS, apples to apples. The Nissan is 2ltr, DOHC and not much heavier than an EG/EK.
I also laugh when I hear all the 1.8ltr Silvia owners bragging about how they destroyed a VL turbo (maybe whilst dreaming)...just because you dont like a car doesnt mean its not fast.

Theres no chance a stock VTi could beat a SSS!

lol...
i gotta mate who owns a SSS N15, and another mate owned a VTi-R DC2, and from what i heard from both drivers, and DC2 VTi-R was having abit of trouble pulling away from the SSS...so lm assuming the Civic Vti-R would have trouble....

CWAZI

having owned a sr20de powered pulsar, its a definate win against si, vti...
but the vti-r will most likely score the win

SIKCVC
09-06-2004, 12:45 PM
you've neglected to mention the other civic varient

But yeah a stock Si would have its arse handed to it, too much torque with the sr20de compared to the d16a/8.

SSS haul arse guyz, Vti and Si have no chance as sad as it is it to say.

although VTI-R and DC2R should have no problems demolishing a SSS.

theres a few up here alot of the N14 ones ive never been game to race one because i got big chromies and heavy stereo,im sure id get my arse handed to me. But the 1.6ltr ones are easy lunch!!!!

SSS beats the EK4 off the line no problems... i've tried it plenty of times with my friend... but by END of first gear and start of 2nd I catch up... but thas revving the jesus outta the car and starting 2nd gear in Vtec, not really flat shifting, but its not gentle either way

it stays fairly even through the start of 3rd (starting in vtec again), but by end of third ur doing about 110-115 kmph the SSS kinda dies..and the ek4 wins. SSS got no top end

Torque wise the SSS has it all over the EK4 though... wihout VTEC ur dying...

presuming that,, i would IMAGINE a VTI/GLI/CXI would get eaten by the SSS... Si Civic... i dunno , they're weird little cars, u wouldnt expect THAT much from a 1.6 DOHC, but i've had to try really hard to beat some in my area... so i guess Si stands a chance as well... VTI = NO WAY

geo41e
09-06-2004, 03:17 PM
i rekon the Si's will have em on lunch..."IMO"

coz i took on a EK4 and beat him off line...pulled away from 1st and 2nd..and pretty much stayed the same on third..however this is a stock EK4, and my si has a bit of mods..nothing too flashy..anyway...

l wanna race a SSS n15...
however wouldn't the n14 have a better take off?? lighter ?

SIKCVC
09-06-2004, 03:18 PM

WTF!?! mines doing more like 135.

SIKCVC
09-06-2004, 03:20 PM
the n15 is light weight (around the 1100 mark if my memory serves me correctly, although thats my Pa pulsar plus) and it has a lot more torque than the Si VtiR because its a 2lt... 2 lters usually pull a lot harder off the line.

Ralph Wiggum

Exactly right Setanta, I fail to see how a 1.6lt DOHC non-vtec can smash a 2lt DOHC non-vtec with minimal weight difference and similar mods!

Nuttz
09-06-2004, 10:50 PM
I guess on paper they dont seem much different.
pulsar with 104kw (someone qouted that earlier) and 1100kg
civic with 96kw (EG Vti) and 1000kg

that is probalby what everyone is using as a comparison but the pulsar would have the torque and in the end would win.

are the n14 models quicker than n15???
i wanna do some more testing with the pulsars... n15s seem pretty ordinary compared to EK4.

09-06-2004, 10:58 PM
I'm not up on the SR20 specs - but from what I've senn, the N14 is quicker.

EGVTi's are 1000kg??? Ouch!!!! I thought my EF9 was heavy at 1030kilos fully optioned including factory sunroof. It's about 80 kilos heavier than its aussie equivilent the ED6.

minus the engine bit..

I miss the EB1/2/3 and EN1 in the first and second gen civics. Engine and gearbox removal involved 2 guys, a pice of rop and a piece of wood they are so light :D

Well the topic states "EG" civic vs. n15 SSS. IMO, with all factors being identical (driver, stock vehicles), no EG can beat an N15 SSS (or probably a Q for that matter, as I've just learnt they also carry an SR20DE).
As far as an EK4 goes, IMO it'd beat a SSS to around 130ish km/h. The two cars should be quite even till 100kms or so.
As far as a DC2 or DC2R (why even mention this? lol), the SSS will have no chance in hell. And that's not being biased. Or maybe the drivers of respective cars that I've seen have been greatly different in skill.....

SIKCVC
10-06-2004, 12:36 AM
I'm sure the SiR wouldn't have any trouble beating an SSS and the SiR is an EG, so dont group them all in like that.

Sorry boys, was referring to AUSDM EGs. Don't see many SiR's running around the roads..... or B16A EGs for that matter......... or DO you...? ;)

:P

Setanta
10-06-2004, 01:33 AM
LOL - that's just inviting trouble jon :D

If you allowed the SSS an engine swap to meet the swap done to the EG then I have a feeling a SR20DET (logical transplant) would totally own a JDM B16A powered Aussie EG ;)

I have a feeling the JDM SSS has more power than an Aussie one - which kind of negates the JDM EG6 argument too.

Thank's for pulling us all back into line with the ideas of the original post :p

I think what setanta is trying to say is that your opinion is very biased. I dont blame you though. I love my :honda: . But that doesnt stop me from liking other cars.
Honda drivers get a bad rep coz of ricers that drive like dickheads and do road racing and stupid shit like that.

Hes just proud of what he drives. And so am I. I run against my mates's Wrx, soarer, rx7 all that time. Sure they laugh they're head off cose they cant understand how a little car with no turbo its just as quick.
I love all nice cars though.
Sumtimes I love not driving my car on the weekends and experience boost for a change.

It's all speculation until you take it to the track and run both cars down the quarter. The quarter mile doesn't lie.

This topic is done.
