this thread will be updated with pics etc etc and happenings of this install.. once it is done then i will make a proper diy without comments tangled through it .. not sure how long it will take buts it is coming together

here goes....
Aim: To mount my 8" dvd screen hidden from view in the dash of my teg.....
** NOTE this can only be done with a if the car is factory without airbags... removing the airbags from a car (dc2r) is illegal and car will be defected etc*****

Thigns needed
1. Type r dash (so its got the hole of the passenger aurbag) - is going into a dc4 so its fine...
2. 12v cordless drill (getting) - need the motor and the chuck for the motorized implement.

3.endless thread - just like a screw bit but doesn't have the top

4. a nut - which attaches to the screen and will move up and down the thread. when raised or lowered

These will be the 4 main parts to the design that i am doing but i will also have to create a box etc....

the endles thred will feed up into the box so it wont be seen etc ....

all i need to figure out is how i can install a cut off switch so that when the screen gets to the desired position

i posted a pic of the plan i have

and i will post most updated pics as i go on

let me kno of thought suggestions (specially about the cut off switch) coz that i not sure about... need it to work like power windows

sounds like a sweet project
g/l with it

i'd recommend adding some sort off stopper to the end of the thread as a safety to stop the moving nut screwing right off.
also a guide rod or bar on the other side of the screen other wise your screen is going to want to swivel.
maybe you could use some of the components from those automatic power windows that new cars have on the drivers side

use a stripped down power arial, would be a lot easier

how much upward power is that gunna give though??? this way will give me about 8:1 with the 12v motor

also being stripped down etc i imagine it to be very very weak and flexible

update:

went a bought the 12v cordless drill and upon dismantlig it i had to work out how i make the motor reverse itself......
By placing the positive and negative wire in the right position it spun one direction and when i reversed the connections it spunt he other direction...

I now have to buy a switch and work out the way i will wire the cables so that one way (up) has the right connection , and the otherway (down) reverses the power source

i had a thought that just splitting the wire from 2 to 4 wires it will enable this to happen and therefore work like a typical power window switch......
i had thought of a relay system but i dont kno much about them

if any1 has a better idea please share your thoughts.

Yep they would have certain gear sections too to give you the torque you need to lift the screen. Sounds like a great idea though!!

have been playing around with the box shape and sizes etc and have had to work out how the screen will be fitting into the box and where to attach the hinge section..

have been swamped with work so i havn't done alot but i took a few quick shots to give the geeral idea

** the dash is sloping down and the box is not positioned exactly right or it would hae fallin through the hole lol**

Yet, I have no pics but you can alway come over or meet up.
I live in castle hill~
You have choice of black carbon, red carbon and brushed aliminum look.
Very good quality!

mono color(meaning patterns, not prints), extreme flexible, matt finish.
Requires perfect prep. saw scratches can show up. So you can show off all your skill and this vinyl can finish it off!

I am getting these in to sell, and you can be my first customer.
And dont pay a cent:thumbsup:

also have finsihed all box assembly on the screen and monitor is attached and fix intoposition... i did have to start again du to some error in judgement ... only thing left is to get vinyl and then attach it to the dash with a stabilsing/hinge mechanism
