Recently purchased shifter base and cable bushing kit from Speed Source out of the U.S. These are highly quality machined brass bushes.

Shifter Base Bushing Kit $28 USD (8x brass bushes)

* To install Shifter base bushes you will need to take apart your centre consol to get access to the shifter assembly (same as installing a short shifter), install takes about 1 hour.

Shifter Cable Bushing Kit $28 USD (2x brass bushes)

Delivery around $20 USD (took a week to deliver)

Installation took around an hour for the shifter cable bushes and was reasonably straight forward if you run an aftermarket air intake system like Injen, K&N Typhoon or Comptech Icebox. Factory OEM air box will require more play with removing various bits to get to the shifter cables. Pics enclosed, note that some of these pics I took from Acurazine as I couldn't be stuffed trying to take shots with greasy hands, props to JTso.

I took the Euro out for a couple of quick laps on the highway and the result is a better solid feel when shifting through the gears. Combined with a short shifter makes for a more involving driving experience. This wont add any additional Killowatts but it's another mod that you can add to the Euro. :D

Andrew, make sure you add lithium grease both on the curved and flat surfaces of the new bushings.

Oh, and the filters have not arrived yet. Chasing them up.

Those things actually make a difference in the feel? Just couldn't believe it, I can't see the difference between the standard and the aftermarket ones (except the size). Guess it's a good mod for the price :D

But isnt there a reason they are Rubber? For instance when you crunch the gears, the rubber avoids damage by dampening the force or something?

If the shift is slightly misaligned, there is some play in the rubber bushing so that the input shaft will get back into its proper alignment as it is "pulled" into the proper gear. With metal bushings, the play is all the way up at the shifter, so it will be alright unless you have a death grip on your knob.

This is more of a "Feel Good" mod than a performance one to tighten excessive play as rubber bushings wear out quicker and maintain the solid feel/play of the shifter.

Link to Speed Source if yr interested in the bushing kits:

Thanks for the interest.

if you really want the fully solid shift feel, at least get polyuretane bushes, getting solid metal bushes for shifter linkage is a really bad idea. You will ruin your gearbox synchros quickly. Cheapo ricer accessory producers have little farmiliarity with car engineering, do not do any R&D, and just want to make a quick buck.

Dont believe me, just go down to any reputable clutch/transmission place and ask them about these and watch them laugh...(or recomend it and give you their business card and tell you to come back see them in 6mths)

Did you replace the shifter bushings before replacing the transmission bushings?
