hey guys, just doin an oil change now and bought some LUCAS Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer, was wondering if anyone else uses it for their SI civic? If so how much of it do you put?

I know it says 20% of the total oil you put in, but how many litres does the SI generally take anyway?

and if anyone here uses this oil stabilizer alot maybe they have memorized a certain amount they need to put in. Like half a bottle of it? Quarter maybe?

thanx guys for the help guys

3.5 litres if you drained it properly.
well it should be.
i'm like 99% it's 3.5 litres normall.
so 20% of that 0.7litres.
so you pour 2.8 litres of oil and 700mls of the oil stabilizer.

nah it doesnt even have that.

but i figured out a way. Ive got an empty water bottle which is 600mLs, so ill just pour it in that bottle until its full and use that as my guide. Hopefully it will be correct.

Word of warning

its the worst shit for you car.

It has been tested and review and was really bad..

It good, then when it gets shaken up, it forms bubbles really easily..
and when you get bubbles in the oil it get alot hotter

Do a search on google - jsut trying to help another ozhonda forumer out..

but i can see what i am saying will be banded by an ozhonda mods. ;(.. they dont take bad reviews good

I used Lucas oil additive to the power steering of my other car to quieten a groaning power steering pump.

After blowing (splitting) two power steering lines upon engine startup on two consecutive days I figured the additive might be doing more harm than (it is VERY thick). After flushing the system and using regular oil ONLY I haven't had a problem since.

Just my two cents.

dude dnt knock the stuff. i have used it before it good, stuff.. had my old ED civic buring oil and running noisy, put a bottle in after oil changed, the car ran alot better.

Also used it in my EG gear box reduce crunchin, i reckon my close to 30-40% was impress with lucas product ever since.

The little tester at super cheap sure got you..

Should atleast try to give what i say some thought next time before jumping to conclusions

The testing was done for both tranmission and engine oils.. both were taken into consideration..

Extract from bob's site

Here it starts to climb...Very impressive and is working as it should be according to their ad's. Only difference between this picture and the above is the additive.

So now let's add some speed to it and see how it will hold up under this conditions.

WOW! This I didn't expect! Notice how it has frothed up! I will say this, Lucas works. It is causing the oil to climb as advertised

Ok, What happened here? Well, I think I can give you an answer.

Notice how the color of the right side has turned extremely light? That's because of the higher amount of air trapped in the gear oil. Again, this is the full synth. Why'd this happen?, Ladies and gent's, oil has antifoamant additives to reduce air bubbles. In this case, there was not enough Antifoamants to keep the oil from trapping air with Lucas added to it

Also notice how the oil on the right has settled down to the bottom leaving very little on the gears. This is the PRIME REASON for not adding in additives into a already good designed oil/ lubricant. Myself, didn't see this coming. It makes perfect sense what happened and would have thought it would help this oil to lubricate at startups but instead, it created more problems than it solved.

Running thicker oil will probably do the same thing (ie: quieten a noisy gearbox or cause it to burn less oil). Based on my experience with their power steering additive I won't use their stuff ever again. Have you seen how thick and sticky it is?

Just my opinion.

I'll have to take pics of the blown hoses I kept after having to replace them.

mercury, if your car isn't making any funny noises or burning oil why use the stuff? My B16A has 230,000kms on it (100,000 with me revving it to redline everyday) and I just use regular oil with no problems.

the amount they tell you to use is too think for a honda. Try using only half the amount. I've used it in older cars and it does help if your burning oil, otherwise it will just slow you down. Its like thicken your oil, but it works better than thicker oil. You will find the product was designed for v6-v8 where their engines get really hot.

usually there isnt such a thing as a quick fix
any additive you add to your engine will cause it to stuff up
your clearences in your engine.
but if it works for you then you should use

I'd rather use a more viscous oil (10w-50) to counter oil burning than to add the Lucas stabiliser to a 10w-30 oil.

Additives...*Shudder*

Just us the money spent on the additives and change the oil more often.

update:

i did use slightly less of the additive then recommended.

It actually made quiet a difference.

Its much more smoother, a lil bit more power and less smokey.

Hopefully it holds out.

cheers
