Checking valve clearances

Just wondering if checking the valve clearances on a Vtec engine (1.5) is any different/harder than a normal engine. I want to do this myself rather than pay a mechanic the $$$$$$$$ to do it.

Fun, up and over the top of the motor. But it's not really all that hard. Put some masking tape over the intake ports so nothing gets in to them that can hurt the motor, like a nut or bolt.
