hey im runnin a jdm b16 with well over 100,000km on it, and recently chnged the engine oil wit Honda FEO and noticed it runnin a bit funny lately, a bit louder (think mite b due 2 tappets) and a rougher idle.

im gunna chnge the oil again this week and jus browsin through the mny brands on the market and wondering wot kind of oils/brand would offer the best protection and lubrication.
sorry if this is a repost i did search but to no avail.

FEO should be fine. If you have money go for the Full Synthenic oils.

Corn or sunflower seems to give good results.

good idea! do u also recommend usin water for petrol instead as well?

On high milage vehicles use the Fuchs 20w50 oil thats what Honda recommends. The oil is abit thicker and if your engines abit older, it will help in oil consumption.

Fuchs is great with the older F and H series as they were specced for 15w-40. B series was specced for 10w-30, so if it was high mileage, then I'd go 10w-40.

If you don't track your car, then there is not much difference in brand of oils compared to the difference in viscosity. If on the street, FEO 10w-30 will be as adequate as Motul 10w-30. But on the track, the Motul will continue protecting while the FEO slowly breaks down from the stress. If your engine is consuming oil, it will consume just as much motul if it is the same viscosity as FEO.

Am currently using FEO and I'm gonna go up to a 10w 40 viscosity next change as well as its consuming a bit more oil cause of the higher kms. I'm just going to go with the mobil synth semi synthetic which is approx $30.

Ricer 4 Life - its really up to you and your budget but as aaronng said on the street, its not going to make a huge difference unless the viscosity is changed.

mobil semi synth for me 10-40
honda one is good too but 10-30 and with summer coming up would be wise to use 10-40w

also 20-50w would be too thick

depends what u use the car for.. performance orientated use a performance type oil.. usually a full synthetic oil like motul, royal purple,mobil1 super synth, castrol edge.. etc

and also the temp conditions you run your car in...

if its around town u want something that lubricates and protects and low temp so a thinner oil

if its long distane u want something that is viscous so it stays around the moving parts and lubricates and protects.. so a thicker grade oil

usually for the inner city driving honda feo is a pretty average oil and its adequate for people to use.. i believe that is a semi synthetic oil..

if you have the extra $$ get a full synthetic and run a magnetic sump plug so it will pick up any foreign metals that maybe in the oil.

FEO is a mineral oil. It's very very good for a mineral oil.
Semi synthetics are also mineral oils but with synthetic additives.
Full synthetics fall into 3 groups. Hydrocracked, polyalphaolefin and ester based, from cheapest to most expensive.

-Hydrocracked is a custom-cracked mineral. So it protects as well as a synthetic but lasts as long as a mineral (Castrol Edge 5w-30).
-Polyalphaolefin is built from the ground up using the light gas fraction of petroleum, so it protects like a synthetic, and lasts long like what is expected of a synthetic. But they tend to not leave a film on the metal when the engine has been off for a long while (Castrol Edge 0w-40, Mobil1).
-Ester based oils are made from esters as the name suggests. They last long, protect well, and leave a nice film on metal surfaces (Motul 300V).
