hi everyone,

i just had my 40000km service done, valve clearance had been done and all 4 disc machined.

What i am worrying is the engine, it seems well tuned and silky smooth except everytime when i accelerate over 3k rpm there is a roughness from the engine. with window down i can listen quit a bit of noise from the engine, sort of like a very light metal scrapping noise, and the faster the car goes, the louder the noise is.

this only happens after 3k rpm, regardless what gear....

anyone have this problem? i.e after valve clearance done and everything seems to work fine except the noise? should i address this to the dealer?

Just go back to the dealer Petsfact as it is not normal. The noise might not be from the engine either - esp given you had the discs machined.

Agreed with going back to the dealer. Reproduce the sound for them. It happened after the service, so they stuffed up somewhere.

Shuddering rotors are a common issue with the Euro and TSX. It's caused by the pads but the dealer chooses to machine it instead.

TSX owners in US wear out the rear brake pads first long before the fronts. I am guessing he drives a major part on the freeway (as is the trend with the TSX).

How do the rear pads wear out first? what difference does it make if you're on freeways or not etc?

When you are in the city, you are braking to stop. So the car's weight shifts forward and the majority of the braking force is provided by the front.

When on the freeway, your braking is more gradual, and the car doesn't tilt forwards as much as in the city. So there is more weight on the rear and the rear pads provide a larger portion of the braking force compared to the city.

Also, the rear pads might be thinner than the fronts!

yo everyone..... sorry to bring up old thread,

my car is closed to 60k now, just wondering if this is a major service? what is involve in 60k service?

I mean if it's not a major one i prefer to bring to to my local mechanic. I feel the job is better done there.

three bottles... you'll only need 2.5L but it comes in 1L bottles... should retail for about $13-15 a bottle for Honda MTF 06...

I only needed 2 bottles, but it depends on how long you let it drain. The Euro takes 1.9L when draining and refilling, 2.2L if you are doing an overhaul.
