Hi,

When i'm acceerating my vtec wont come on or drops out thru out the rev range. sometimes it will engage like normal at 5200rpm but other times its later or not at all and sometimes it engages but then disengages. Just wondering if this is because the vtec solenoid is dirty or because it needs a service

cheers

Honda oil mate....
I think theres a sticky on what to do if your vtec is not working properly.
remember vtec works based on oil pressure, if theres not enough oil then there wont be enough pressure to activate it..
I also imagine if the oil is old a crappy same principle will apply.
Try to eliminate what could be causing it by checking and changing what needs to be replaced.

are u sure it drops out?
or did it just fall off?

serioud note: do a ECU check to see if it throws any codes
search ECU check

my mates type R v-tec use to kick in late or sometimes not at all
the problem was that he was running low oil in the car .... he did a service and it was running great after that !

If your car has a good amount of oil in it already then id get it cheaked out by honda or somebody who has worked on v-tec motor's before

Not a Honda ECU. maybe your vtec engagement points werent set properly.

nah its set right, i've owned the car for over a year now and its always come on at 5200 revs. Anyway i just changed the oil - it was pretty black. After i put new oil in i took it for a run and it seems to be working fine again, also i have never had honda oil in the car but this time i used it and it feels like the engine is smoother when idleing. Now i just gotta get the oil of the ground because the cheap oil pan i got leaked :(
