I hear from many sources, friends and idiots that

1. Suspension can be lowered by adjusting the standard suspension

2. By Cutting the suspension? (sounds dodgy)

3. By professionals who install new springs and suspensions into your car to fit the lowerage you want.

I have 17" on my Ek1, unlowered and it looks like a mini 4wd, ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!

1. it can b lowered using ur standard suspension. they can compress the spring. con is. ride can be really rough. better to get new springs as u may need stock springs just in case.

2. cutting ur stock suspension is another alternative. but it is highly dangerous.

3. this is the best choice. lowering wif springs is a good and cheaper and also SAFER choice of the three. kings springs is a good start for budget.
lowering can b from 15-45mm

1. Nope, unless you've got a super expensive car with air/hydrualic suspension

2. Definite NO NO!!!!

3. By professionals who know their stuff!

You can just buy lowering springs (decent/good ones include whiteline, Tein, eibach just to name a few) but then you would be using stock shock absorbers which weren't designed to go with the lowered springs, so then you'd have to look at getting a decent set of shock absorbers as well. There are quite a few people who lower their cars with just lowered springs and standard shocks, although some seem ok and others seems to die pretty quick.

An alternative is to get coilovers, this is more expensive but majority of the coilovers available offer height and dampener adjustments. With coilovers you can lower the car and also raise it back up if you want to. But as said earlier, it is more expensive than shocks/springs combo.

and also, how much would it cost? for a set of springs and shock absorbers to lower the car by say 40mm.
Name me some pro places..

^ how many kms on your car

you could get away with just buying springs say super low kings springs cost you about 300$ for the parts. and you can either diy or expect to pay about 200 - 300 for fitting inlucing wheel alignment

Don't forget when lowering, you will get camber issues, potential rubbing issues, and accelerated wear and tear of things like CV joints, bushes, and pretty much antything to do with suspension.

Advice, lower sensibly and u will save $$$ in the long run.

i had 16'' rims on mine but then coz it was lower and the way i drive the rubber wasnt lasting me that long... and u have 17''
so think about how low u wanna go..

the best thing about coilovers is that u can drop u car to the hight which is just right for ur self...

im telling u the same thing my mate told me when i was dropping my car. he told me to get coilovers but i went for king springs :(

should of saved more and got the coilovers..

learn from other ppls mistakes and u will not have any of ur own

Please read the sticky, 'so you want to modify your car'. That will contain some of your answers.

Don't ever ever ever cut springs...a stupid and highly dangerous thing to do. Not to mention that you have a high chance of one side of your car sitting higher than the other. Coilovers all the way.

So true Jeff. Unfortunately, I've experienced most of the above:(
What starts off as a simple modification can sometimes end up costing you more in the long run if not done right the first time.

Yeah, alot of people say to them selves, "I can get lowering springs for 300 bucks, why would i wanna pay 1800 bucks for coilovers that do the same thing??"

What they're forgetting is that when your buying coilovers, your not just gettings springs, your getting new shocks as well. not to mention you getting the freedom of adjustability to lower or raise your car as you feel free.

Much better off to save up and get some coilovers in the first place.

J

PS i've got 2200 bucks worth of coilovers sitting behind me at work as i post this :D:D:D:D:D

Cheap way would be just to get 4 guys(preferably overweight) in the car including you, That should lower the car abit. Btw you planing to rice the ek? coz you could aways get a kit. My ek's on 16's with a kit and it looks and is pretty low, i have to drive sideways on dips and driving up and down my driveway. But hey it looks cool!

so how do u fix camber issues if you have any?

Sensei

Purchase and install a camber kit, then have a wheel alignment done. Some cars can get by with a few washers in the right places to adjust camber like the CD Accord (I think).

Camber kits is around 300-500 a pair...

Coilovers don't reduce camber.

Camber is increased when you lower the car. you need to buy a camber kit to fix the problem.

You can either get an adjustable replacement Upper Control Arm, or you can get new bushes for the suspension. I prefer the Upper control arm as its adjustable and you can install it yourself with regular tools. The bushses need to be pressed in by a mechanic.

not 100% sure but i think some coil overs come with camber adusters built in... have a look into it

Not for double wishbone suspension. (Most honda's) In these setups the camber is adjusted via the UCA.

You can adjust camber via the coilovers when they're apart of a mcpherson strut setup.
