Hi all,
I'm looking at upgrading my audio - hopefully i'm not going to repeat questions already asked - i've tried to bring together info from multiple threads.
My setup is as follows
- I've got a Euro Luxury 06 with the factory sound system + factory MP3 addon/CD reader
- I've got a Tom Tom 910
- I've got a Ipod 80GB
The plan is to connect the Ipod -> Tom tom, use the touchscreen interface to control the IPod and then remove the factory MP3 addon (will be for sale soon ;)) and then connect the tom tom -> Aux input. I'd also like to hookup a single sub at the same time if i can as well as amplify the stock speakers if its a good idea. I'll be getting a pro mob to do this and i'd be appreciative of any recommendations for Canberra or failing that, Sydney
From what i've read, here's my understanding:
- I'll need to remove the MP3 input and replace it with something like the
- I'll purchase the tom tom->ipod connector
- I can then use a Soundgate SNHOND3 to hook the tom tom in. This will then give me ipod control, sound being passed through and the GPS info being read over the speakers - very cool hopefully :)
- I can also get a LOC put in for the sub connectivity - am i correct that 2 channels would give the sub and 4 would give the sub + tweaters - as a side issue - which speakers would be best to amplify
- once i've got the LOC in, then the amp would connect into the LOC and then the sub into the amp to boost the sound and give sub goodness
Have i got it right guys or should i just go out and shoot myself ;)

Im no expert but it sounds like you're on the right track.I've already got a similar setup that you're int.in minus the tom tom and ipod(am thinking about adding ipod compatibility soon!)I've got the factory headunit with a LOC Alpine 4 ch.amp(50W RMS/ch.)10'' Kenwood sub powered by Kenwood 2 ch.amp bridged to give 120 RMS(with sep.fader control).Ft.speakers are Boston splits(sound brilliant),rears are old Alpine DDdrives.Ft. doors have dynamat(well worth it!)Rear speakers have insulated "cups"installed as well.Amps are installed under rear parcel shelf in a tray covered in material almost identical to material in the boot.None of these mods are visible from inside the car.If i were you i'd upgrade the factory speakers(they're pretty ordinary).I got this professionally done in Sydney by Precision car audio in Carlton.Ph.95471574.Talk to one of the 2 Pauls. One of them is ex.Alpine head of R&D.They've won numerous audio comps.etc.Can't recommend them highly enough, very professional. Not cheap though! They did my install when my car was brand new and didn't stratch or mark anything!

Thanks for the info
So if i understand this right - you've used a 4 channel LOC split, connected it to an amp and then replaced the front speakers with Boston speakers but left the rear default as is? You've then bridged the other two channels and hooked it into a sub?
Dynamat is a car noise filling/killer correct?
We looking in the range of 2-3k for a pro-setup correct?
The choice is to fix up the audio/setup the tom tom permanenetly + ipod or to do some car upgrades - any suggestions for getting a bit more power from stock?

Hi Tony, would like to meet up with you someday to check out your installs as I am from Syd too....
I have a Alpine 7998 HU, Tru 4.100 amp, OZ 180 CS matrix speakers and dynamats waiting to go in to my car. Just need to get a sub and amp.
I am thinking of feeding the signal from the stock CD player/changer back to my HU as my HU accepts Aux in. Probably I will need a LOC as the stock HU
dont have any RCA outs... but not sure if the signal is good enough to go thru the hassle.
Hmm well I'll find out next week how good the LOC's go. I'm getting all my gear put in next Friday.
Factory HU - 2 channel LOC - EQ - 2 x 2 channel Amps - MB Quart fronts and 10 inch Sub in fibreglass/mdf box.
Will post pics and thoughts once its setup.

nice.... I think I had seen your photos before, probably at the CAA site.
I was looking at NE-7V and also N-7V. Still not sure what the difference between the 2 units, but the NE-7V is a lot cheaper due to its introductory price...

No prob... not really in a hurry as still thinking of what sub to go for....
Hi all,
I had my Navone LOC and amps/speakers installed last week. I can report that the LOC doesnt seem to introduce any noise... HOWEVER... there is still a noticeable 'hiss' from the H/U which is always there even with the stock system. But the good news is that its only noticeable at very low volumes and doesnt increase as the volume raised so I assume its just the dodgy Honda H/U and there isnt much that can be done about it.
I'm also having problems getting any Sub frequencies out of the LOC so my Subs basically arent working at the moment.. seems I'm getting nothing below 90Hz. The LOC is running of the front speakers wires, does anyone know if the front channel from factory has the bass removed from it ? ... I know the rears play low because I measured it before I changed anything. I'm worried that the rears are capped for high freq's and the fronts are capped for low freq's...
Has anyone used a LOC off the front speakers or is everyone using the rears? And does the Factory H/U have any inbuilt capping or EQ ?
I just installed sound system in my car few days ago with Alpine. Details:
Alpine head unit CDA-9813.
Alpine speakers DDLinear DLX-176.
Alpine speakers Type-S SPS-690A.
2x Alpine subwoofer Type-R 12" SWR-1242D.
Alpine 4/3/2 channel amp MRV-F430.
Alpine monoblock amp MRD-M500.
Custom boot with glass & blue LED.
I'll post detailed pics soon.

All i know is i'm using the LOCs 4 ch Alpine amp and sep amp for a 10"sub and i have NO hiss/noise at all, even when vol is on 0 with the A/C on.BTW i'm using the HondaH/U.
Hey Tony,
Thanks for the reply. I dont get any hiss when the volume is on 0, its only when you turn it up to 1 that it has a slight hiss that stays at the same level even when the volume is turned up. So one the volume is past 5 or so you cant hear it at all.
How are you running a 4 channel and 2 channel amp off 1 LOC.. are you using splitters ? Any idea whether the LOC/s are wired off the front or the rears speakers wires?

If there's no room to put aftermarket headunit, you can buy an adapter to connect from your factory headunit to the amp. You adjust all the setting using bluetooth connection from palm pilot. It's pretty handy and the price is like aftermarket head unit. I forgot the name, i think something like 360..., i'll post the link when i found out.
