I think Sydney dealers have some explaining to do.
When I return from NZ my 04 Euro is due for 40K service and from the other threads if seen , I see its pretty expensive and prices range quite a bit. I know its the cars 1st major service. And as per my service booklet states the following needs to be done:
Inspect *
Steering gearbox, tie rod ends and boots
Suspension components
Drive shaft boots
All fluid levels and condition of fluids
Brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
Exhaust system
Fuel tank, lines and connections
Tyre condition
Front and rear brakes
Headlight, taillight, indicator, reverse light and brakelight operation
Rotate tyres
Valve clearance
Accessory drive belt
Parking brakes
Headlight alignment
Test drive (check all systems and controls)
* Inspect, and if necessary adjust
* and clean.
Engine oil
Engine oil filter
Air cleaner element
So did some of my own research and found this.....
I rang 4 random Sydney Dealers & poped into a local dealer here in the North Iland of NZ just to compare prices. All asking them to carry out the above.
Not naming any dealers these are the following prices I was quoted in Sydney .
Dealer a. $650.00
Dealer b. $490.00
Dealer c. $580.00
Dealer d. 700.00
NZ Dealer you would tend to think would be expensive ?
NOT!
$405 NZD! now this is NZD and our dollar usually is around 10-15% stronger. then theres.
I just dont get it :( :thumbdwn:
I just had my 40K service. The dealer that i usually go quoted me $630 and most of the other dealers quoted me $425-$450. Then i went to a dealer that recommended me, at first they quoted me $425 but i ended up paying $346 because i brought my own oil (-$30) and i have CAI so they didn't change the air filter (-$49).

LOL, they are not the cheapest but their quality is good. Their minor 10,000 and 20,000 service costs about $240. Pay $200 if you bring your own oil.
I just checked the invoice for my 40k service last year. It was $277.50 from Prestige Melville Honda in Perth. Price did not include oil as I bring my own and did not include air element as I use an ITG washable.

Yfin got a long way to drive if I want it at that price ;)
Still overall I am pretty sure Sydney is the most expensive to service a Euro @ 40K in all of Australia

On top of the high price you pay... Your car gets a good trashing drive test to end it all :).....
I got quoted $499 to do a 40000Km service and tranny fluid change...

Tranny fluid change is probably close to an extra $100.
Why did you want the tranny fluid change ?
Because his last change was a year ago.

So how often should you change the Tranny Oil in a Euro ? I thought only every 60,000Km if you drive hard or 100,000km normal use.

It's up to you. The manual transmission is meant to be sealed and you won't lose transmission fluid. The synchros do wear and so do the gears when running in (and when shifting hard), so there will be a build up of metal particles. I'd do mine every 2 years or after every track day. If I drive hard, then every year if I felt like it.
For your auto, it's better to change it every 2 years.

Why did you want the tranny fluid change ?
Because the Tranny was getting sluggish @ 40000km, I ended up changing it myself.. That was about a year ago and my plan is to change the tranny fluid every 15000-20000kms now...

you can't really compare overseas prices to Australia. Sure the dollar might be close to each other, but every country has their own taxes and import regulations. It may be a simple case of NZ being able to import parts from their factory in at a much cheaper rate than australia would. And did you try different dealers there to compare too? Or just one NZ dealer price vs. 4 syd prices?

Sydney is more expensive. Even servicing in Melb is cheaper.

about $495 incl trans service is about right for a euro 40k service. if they charge charge any less they are either
-not doing trans service
-not adjusting valve clearances (sometimes not really needed at 40k)
also alot of dealers quote low prices which is for a bare minimum service, then try to upsel things like trans services once you get in the door.
we get the occaisional person claim our dealership is expensive, then they realise we do more and it realistically works out cheaper =/
what was dealer D offering for $700? gold plated air filter? blow jobs out the back?

Yup, for my 2 year service, my car was only at 30,000km. So the valve clearance check was postponed to the next service closer to 40,000km on the odometer. So the cost of the 40,000km service dropped to $210.

$210? what did they include in that? just oil and filter?
no way that could include air filter and trans service

One quoted be $212!! & Another $320 go and figure this.

do you guyz think that HONDA's labour for servicing that expensive? I'm thinking that it's not parts price so expensive, but the "stamp price" (HONDA HISTORY BOOK)... *i mean to get the stamp* .
other than HONDA actually there are so many good places to servicing, but they dont stamp ur history tho! that's why it's cheaper..

If you ask them to do the service outlined in the service manual you will get the stamp from any mechanic.

If you ask them to do the service outlined in the service manual you will get the stamp from any mechanic.
also if you ask a dealer for a straight book service they will do the bare minimum by the book and it will work out cheaper for you. that will mean like no trans services or engine aditives etc.
they ONLY do what's in the book, it's what dealers do with most fleet cars (depends of fleet company)
while it may not be as good for your car it's good for all the tightasses/broke ppls wallets
