Iam thinking of buying my friends DC2R for $10k its done 170k kms and gearbox requires a rebuild? the car has been thrashed iam aware of this.
If i have to rebuild hte box chnage engine mounts and give the motor a refresh will i have change from 8k i would liek to get it all running for 18k Whats your thaughts?

i say dont go thru the trouble - sounds like the car has had its share of problems and probably not a good idea to get them passed on to you

jus hang around and wait for a dc2r in good condition - save up abit more money up to 22k and u can find a mint one

good luck dude

what i would do is find a new engine. sell off the current one. if you can do the work yourself you could get away with it cheap.

i say go for it. it may have a hard life, but i highly doubt its going to have a further $10k worth of problems to fix.

you never know mate

sourcing parts individually can end up costing quite a bit.
especially without the right contacts

yeh see this is whta leaves me in two minds at least though i know its been thrashed, thats the only good thing. the way i was figuring it was $4k for the gearbox max? what you guys think anyone who done a complete box on a dc2r would be appreciated.
for the engine i was think a refresh, i.e rings(burns oil), headgasket, prob oil pump while i got it apart? (pls do suggested spoon, toda etc i cant afford to go hardcore iam poor) the water pump, timing belt (oh yeh engine mounts feked) hence engine mounts,oh i will porb just do full gasket kit.
what you guys think? i need to know soon as iam thinking of the purchase asap as he has another offer, but this is a mtes rates price for the car at least hes honest with the probs, car still goes hard tho :p

if you can do all the work youself then should be able to do it for that price im pretty sure but if youve never rebuilt a gearbox or engine before forget it.

Try looking arround at the half cut importers for gearboxes and motors possibly a half cut the half cut might even have some less destroyed engine mounts

4k for a gearbox is very ambitious. 2k max for a second hand good condition gearbox, and allow maxiumum of 5k to 'refresh' your engine.
that's a total of 6-7k.
dont know about you, but a 17k type r that's good to go for another 200,000kms after your freshen up sounds like a good deal to me.
or you can just buy a complete motor and gbox for 6.5k and put it all in at once. that way you'll only need to buy your new mounts and your ready to go again

thats another possible option i didnt think of but would $6.5k buy me a low kms good condition gearbox with motor!

i got my 4k figures for the gearbox as my friend told me the place he tried quoted him 4k as they said type r boxes parts r expensive. but liek anything u just gotta look in the right place

Buy it, rebuild it and drive it!
How bad could it be, even if you swap the motor you'll still get out of it for less than $20 000.
I would do it.

buy the car for 10k ...
plus by a jdm front cut ... and u get new motor plus jdm front end conversion for under 17k if u do it urself ...

wat a bargin

plus u can sell off ur old moter and all ... should net a few g's

this would bring it down under 15k for a jdm front dc2r
