Hi
I've got a EJ8 with D16y8 SOHC VTEC
anyway its not tuned at all (Stock)
and i've noticed a strange sound like
"glinding metal" comes when the rpm goes over about 5k.
It hasn't happened before.
I am wondering what is going wrong with it.
Any help would be thankful!
Cheers!

Change the engine oil and adjust the tappets, and see how that goes.

thanks for reply. :)
i've visited Benjamin and he said apparently my car is slowly DYING :(
Lack of maintanence.. lol
i'm sure the sound is not Vtec.
It was something like scratching metals together. Sorry about nonsense of 'glinding' lol.
Never heard the sound anyway..!
i'm changing mission and engine oil, spark plug.. see how it goes :p
Also I wonder if my engine is Vtec or not!!!!!!
I don't feel it at all..! is it because its automatic and fully stock?
again its D16Y8 SOHC Vtec.. (according to the manual :P )
Just wanna know how its like in automatic on other SOHC Vtec cars..!

VTEC lacks, ppl on here hype it up so much. dont worry ur not missing out on anything.

Yeah u got vtec, but only on one cam (your only cam) so i think only exhaust profile changes. You'll notice it even less than a DOHC engine if u notice it at all. I can only hear the diffrece

glinding <- grinding
i'm sure the sound is not Vtec. <- your vtec dont even work bro!
My ek1 kicks in harder then yours at 5k!!!
mission <- transmission (Don't use KOREANised slang LOL)
automatic and fully stock? <- You have HKS panels and lots o' Audio!!!
according to the manual <- Your engine says that! We all saw that with ben!

It all adds up to.... swap time!

Have you ever got to drive any SOHC VTEC?
For what it is, it goes very hard! What more to say about Twin cams?

vtec is never over-rated. Its all you need.
I have never seen any other cars that out perform vtec cars in its comparable specs.
even Honda SOHC revs and makes power like other DOHCs.
VTEC, I reckon its best valve technology so far...

maybe you need tappet adjustments?or somefin is loose when the revs get higher and engine is workin harder?

Thats actually completley wrong. VTEC only works on the intake side. The reason for this is because there is no room to fit VTEC rocker arms on the exhaust side of a SOHC because you need room for the spark plug tubes to enter.

Some other information on your engine.
- It makes 127Hp or 93Kw
- VTEC activates at 5600 Rpm
- Redline is at 6900Rpm but engine cuts out at 7200Rpm

FYI

You will never feel a SOHC VTEC 'Kick' in so to speak. This is because it is not a performence varient of VTEC technology, rather designed to provide maximum efficency and economy in all RPM ranges. If you want to hear it just remove your existing intake(airbox, resonator, tubing) and replace it with something aftermarket that doesnt muffle the intakes noise.

ben finalised this matter.
He reckons the engine is on its way to the grave...
