Hey guy's my situation is this. I have $22000 to spend and I have loved the 2001 dc-2 type r since it came out. I was just wondering if any of the guy's here who own or have driven a type r could shed some light on this car. It will mostly be used for getting to and from work (only a short drive) but I will also want to take it out for a late night thrash. I was wondering if it is a heavy or light maintenance car and just the little things that a dealer or previous owner wont tell you. your comments would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. cheers guy's.

put i tthis way mate

ive owned mine since new... and i have spent a cent on broken parts

its just now that im needing to replace the disks and pads, had the clutch done about 3 months ago... other than that its been an absolute pleasure to own.

Watch for gearbox notchiness when your buying, make sure the clutch bites well, and for a noisy engine, as in valvetrain noise which would indicate irregular oil changes.

Check you insurance pricing, as you dont want to drive a car like this uninsured

recaros get worn, the suede gets shiny around the lower bolsters... other than that, the thing is amazing to drive.

Mines only got 56k kms on it, and its like new

what colour are you interested in? i might be selling a yellow 09/99, 2000 complianced model soon

I've own my 2001 dc2r for about 2yrs now... so far no regrets... it an everyday car for mean handling is just amazing... as long as u maintain it well (oil change 5000km, fill up with mobil synergy), you shouldn't have any problems. See if you can find 1 with low kms...most of the are now well over 100,000km

I've owned my DC2R for about 4 months and I am loving every single day I spend with it. Drive is fun, and very responsive car.

With $22,000 you can easily find the right car, all it takes is time.

I also own a yellow DC2R, 3 responses with yellow dc2R's

yellow ftw!

22k is what i spent when i bought mine 6 months ago, 56k km on the clock then, and full service history, as long as their serviced and have receipts, log to prove it you really cant go wrong, just check the gearbox out when your driving, apparently their notorious for 2nd/3rd gear crunches at high revs, so get the owner to give it some stick when he takes you for a spin. I use mine as a daily and its fine, you just get an urge to vtec it every chance you get tho.

... also a yellow dc2r owner ...

sweet guy's. thanks for the info. i might of found one. 72000 on the clock, all log books, serviced every 5000 with recipes, rego till july, black with no dents scraches or bump marks, no gear crunch in the high rpm shift range. all this for the handsom sum of $21,500... what do you guys think? anything else i should look for?

Could potentially be a good buy, if your really paranoid get a NRMA Vehicle check or whatever their called, but all in all it should be pretty good.

A bit OT but i think its a time for a yellow dc2r cruise to freak people out

I bought my DC2R about 3-4 months ago with 80,000kms on the clock. Their wasnt alot around at the time I was trying to purchase one so I wasnt able to be picky. Most that were available were at dealers and the price they wanted was just rediculous. And the few that I found private were either to far away or had over 120,000kms. I settled on the one I bought which had a few minors mods and was in relatively perfect condition. .... Until today when someone reversed into the front of my car while it was parked at work and didnt leave a note *bastards*.

Anyway I love my DC2R. They go great, sound great and are very economic. Mine has coilovers (D2's) which I dont really like, they are a bit ruff. I am thinking of swapping out for Buddy Club or Tein Flex.

Just for arguments sake my DC2R is red, so it will beat all the yellow ones because red goes faster LOL. Just kidding. I wanted any colour but black because black is just so hard to keep clean and its hot.

I'm sure you'll be happy with you purchase if you decide on getting a DC2R.

Thanx all help apreciated

im in the market for a dc2r also, and any help would be helpful.

how much should i be expecting to pay for one with relatively high km? say over 120,000km...there doesnt seem to be that many for sale on carsales atm, and they're all around the $22k mark regardless of km.

aside from the gearbox prob mentioned before, are there any other common problems to look out for?

what kind of fuel consumption am i looking at? should it be something around 10L/100km or less?

thanks again fellas

I'm pretty sure that even if the KM's are high on a type R, if it was serviced regularly, you really shouldn't find a problem, although with mine i had to find the lowest km's possible for the price, but thats just a personal thing. Fuel consumption i get 10L/100kms around 400km's to a tank(40L) but there are some people that have claimed to have gotten 500kms and more out of a tank.

on the topic of owning a dc2r(which i also will soon own)
what lengths do you guys go to deter thieves from the dreaded recaro theft
seat covers? loctite on bolts? silicon around the head of the bolt?

Anyone who is not totally familiar with a vehicle type aught to do themselves a favour & pay for a vehicle inspection report. (Eg: NRMA)
In addition to this, have an independant workshop do a compression test & this will give you an exact idea what the thing is worth.
(NRMA doesn't do comp test... Cost is approx $50 DC2-R)
Further, an inspection report will give you an insight into what the thing is going to cost you in the future.
