hey all,
was drivuing along today in 2nd gear, at about 40kph driving through traffic ( partial throttle to maintain speed ) minding my business when my car stalls...simple as that.
here are some symptoms and the current state of my car.
no coughing or spluttering and no unusual noises coming from anywhere.
I pulled over and the car will turn over but will not start.
I have power to everything electronic.
I checked the fuse for the fuel pump ( all good) but i am yet to check for spark.
i have plenty of fuel.
fuel filter hasnt been changed for yonks and yonks.
I cant smell fuel when i turn it over even when using the throttle whilst starting.
the attery is almost new and i am getting plenty of power to the starter motor.
plugs are at 75000km ( they are platinum )
this is the 1st time i have had a break down in my car since the conversion 3 years ago and the car has always ran like a dream until it stopped today.
Also took off the timing belt cover to check to see if snapped and it is in one piece.
worst time ever for my car to break down- was heading to the coat tomorrow night for the oz day long weekend. now the mrs is spewing cos we probably cant go lol.

Ha just replied to your snapped timimg belt thread. You will have to do the basic tests spark/fuel before anyone can be much help.

yep, checked all thses. thinking i might have a blocked fuel filter as the fuel pump is working but i cant smell fuel anywhere.
problem is, i cant replace the fuel filter as myself or 2 differnt machanics cant get enough access to it due to the increased size of the h22a engine in the engine bay.

Hi Cam! Sorry to hear that your engine is giving problems now.... Check the dizzy for corrosion and also the ICM. I doubt it is the fuel filter...

3 years and no breakdowns is a pretty good innings for a 10 year old engine so something is bound to fail sooner or later.
Am going to run some checks over the weekend....if i dont locate the problem it's already booked in to get fixed anyways.

Well, it should be an electrical/electronic problem since the car just suddenly died and it's not a timing belt problem. My dad's f22a is still going strong after 15 years (even with incorrect oil 20w-50 and original fuel filter for 14 years), so I don't think your h22a which was better cared for would give up the ghost so easily.

thanks aaron.. i check the main relay and its working fine.
I checked to see if the timing belt had snapped by turning over the motor whilst looking down the oil filler and unluckily the belt has failed.
i wasnt pulling many revs when it went...maybe 2-3k rpm and i didnt hear any horrible noises so depending ob how lucky i am is how much it will cost to get fixed.
may as well get the water pump and balance shaft belt replaced at the same time.
thanks for your help guys.

always replace the balance belt at the same time as the timing belt
also change the tentioner, throw in a F22B1 tentioner in or H23 ( manual Tentioner ) or at least another hydraulic tentioner.
do a compression test with the timing covers off but the harmonic balancer on. if they are all ok , then put it all back together again.
good luck

thanks for the tip john, I'll be sure to get the mechanics to do it.
Im getting honda to do the work- i've got a pretty good relationship with the dealership.
I am probably better off buying the major parts myself through spare parts ( trade price ) and get the service dept to fit them, intead of the service dept charging me full retail for the parts needed.
what are the pro's and cons of a hydraulic tentioner vs a manual one?
if i get the parts through spare parts what am i up for?
-timing belt
-balance shaft belt
-water pump
-tensioner
