trying to find the correct tyre that best suits your driving style can be difficult at times and tyre shops may tend to rip you off if you just say i want the best tyre for xxx conditions...

Now what im trying to achive is to guide people into choosing the right tyre. You can always look up the make of tyre via google or etc but what eles should you look for whilst at the tyre shop?

-- Most people know that soft compound tyres are very grippy but tend to lose more rubber in a shorter period of time while hard compound are less grippy but have more life in them ...

-- The most important thing to mention is that even though you may think you have the best tyre in what ever condition or sports tyre its best to test the tyre out...not to put them on your car and go crazy hahaha... but to roll 1 tyre out stand it on a up right position and just lean on it putting pressure ontop of the tyre if it feels quite firm then thats very good for cornering/track use if it feels a bit soft or bouncy then your car will body roll while entering the corner therefore losing time and speed...for people who love cornering or just own a DC2R then get a tyre with firm firewalls !!

most people know this already but for those who didnt then im glad to help

Using feeling to test tyres can hardly be accurate. Well at least you need to line them all up and physically feeling them one immediately after the other.

I just read how many ply and rayon are used to construct the sidewall....the same goes for tread. You will know how the tyres behave with changes of force and temperature.

that sure doesnt seem like a good way to test tyres at all.

do you have any evidence whatsoever other than your own reasoning?

people can read wheels magazine's tyre tests, or search forums for reviews, both of those are far better than your 'method'

You 80kg on a tyre is not going to put the same amount of load as a 1200kg car on 4 tyres (more on the front and even more when cornering)

That info is very inaccurate, sidewall stiffness makes an extremly small effect on roll stiffness, nor is stiffer sidewalls always the best option in a track situation. Lot of very fast racing cars use tyres with really soft sidewalls.
The biggest effect of sidewall stiffness is on lateral compliance of the tyre.

maybe tell us what tyres you are using and what tyre you want to get and we can help you.
softer compound doesnt mean its gonna grip more.

Wrong advice is bad advice in these such situations as it only breeds confusion. He basically is asking forposting that... People need to provide that input so someone who does not know does not follow the wrong part.

yeah i recommend anyone looking into the area of tyre choice to disregard this thread.
the guy hasn't even thought to consider tyre pressure.
I dont know if its occured to him but if you use his test on 2 tyres off the rims - a regular run of the mill family car comfort tyre, say 70 profile, vs a high performance tyre, say 45 profile, the regular tyre will feel stiffer. kinda got to consider the fact that there'll be an extra 10 psi pumped into high performance tyre at recommended pressure.

Just use the tyre recommendation thread. theres some useful posts amongst it all
