maybe if you told me what resolution you're after we might be able to sort something out

I have 1920x1200 res but there's quite a few variants of resolutions.

the only prob I see, is that a lot of the images that are submitted are a max 1280x1024 res and cant really be made into the widescreen resolutions.

but widescreens are becoming more and more common so if Wyn and the boys says they want to add more wallpaper resolutions, I can try make widescreen versions for each month if the picture resolution is available.

Shitty thing is all these ratios are in use for monitors! 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 16:10 etc

And most DSLR's of today are in 3:2 aspect ratio, makes making wallpaper a bitch!

Try to find the closest over sized res for your photo's then and crop them back to fit.

Try not to resize too far cause you'l lose clarity.

You don't lose clarity, you just cut off portions of the picture when cropping to the correct aspect ratios in photoshop.

And if the subject filled 98% of the screen cropping won't work. FTL!

Cropping and resizing are two different things.

I guess i didn't clarify enough. If you downsize the image resolution WITHOUT loosing any of the picture you'll loose some sharpness around your edges etc.

Where as if you just do a straight crop you'll be fine.

You'll also need to think ahead with taking your photo's then if you know they're going to be cropped or used for a specific purpose (ie magazine covers usually have plenty of blank space in the frame for titles, etc.

I'm only talking about cropping, since the output are 3:2 from my DSLR.
What i'm saying it's a bitch catering for every single size ppl request.
One want this size, another want that, it won't end!

Easier to give out the pictures in 4:3, 5:4, and 16:10 ratios at a large size and if it doesn't fit their monitor natively, resize down accordingly themselves.

Yeah that'd be the way to go.

Just send them out at like 3200+ for people that wanna do 1600 dual screen crops. hehehe

Dont forget 1680x1050 (16:10)

22" widescreen LCD's use this resolution and are dirt cheap these days ($383-$600+) and are selling like hotcakes

I'll leave it to Steve to decide but IMO there are just too many sizes to cater for and it makes the workload much much higher. Hence increasing the chance of the wallpapers not getting done.

How's about you guys actually submit some decent wallpapers instead of complaining about the sizes of the available ones?

mr crex

wtf... I didnt realise there were so many damn resolutions now days lol I dont have that kind of time on my hands lol

I dont really mind making a 4th wallpaper in 16x10 aspect which should accomodate the majority of widescreen monitors, but then I need photos in much higher resolution sent to me then 1280x1024, and theres the cropping worry as someone mentioned, if the car or subject fills the majority of the shot then it might get a bit cut up with the cropping of such a wide aspect.

If the photographer submitting the images for wallpaper dont mind the cropping then I dont mind doing the extra work.

BUT I NEED MORE SUBMISSIONS! the regular guys who submit photos are greatly appreciated, and will be featured regularly, but we would like some more variety and more submissions by regular members.

submission details are here: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/announcement.php?f=13&a=7 but it needs to be updated, the resolutions specified in the thread need to be much larger, 1280x1024 MINIMUM!

Wyn I'll chat to you about updating the thread and a couple other things.

and also didnt know that there were so many resolutions in widescreen...

SORRY FOR THE HASSLE!!!

mr crex
31-01-2007, 10:31 AM
lol yeah thanks aaron... you bastard! hahahaha

it seems 1440x900 is the most common, is this true 16x9 or a 16x10?

to save creating an extreme amount of work for myself, I'll make a widescreen in the most common resolution and people can just resize if their screen is different

but I cant make widescreen resolutions until I get some photos submitted in higher resolution... so I need members to start submitting their photos!

16:10 Steve, never seen a 16:9 ratio comp monitor myself.

Could you offer it without the months numbers too?

mr crex
08-03-2007, 03:58 PM
no

that defeats the purpose of having "monthly wallpapers"
